WOMEN AND CHILDREN ARE BEING ABUSED! HELP US BUILD A SHELTER!

OUR CAUSE

Since COVID-19 began, there has been a significant increase in domestic violence. Women are trapped and unable to escape their abusers!

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE

The more we remain silent and insensitive to the pain of these women, the more these incidents will happen. We have an obligation to remove harm from others.  The Prophet Muhammad (Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever among you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand [by taking action]; and if he cannot, then with his tongue [by speaking out]; and if he cannot, then with his heart [by feeling that it is wrong] – and that is the weakest of faith.” [Muslim] 

In Philadelphia:

• **The Philadelphia Police respond to more than 100,000 9-1-1 calls each year that are domestic in nature.
• **The courts are clogged with more than 12,000 requests for Protection From Abuse orders each year.
• **The Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline was forced to turn away an average of nearly 9,000 requests for shelter each year for the past three years (FY19-17) because our 200 emergency safe haven beds - the only shelter beds available for survivors of domestic violence in Philadelphia - were already full.
• **27 people were killed by domestic violence in Philadelphia in 2018.

My Sister’s Haven is raising funds to build a shelter to house women and children who are victims of domestic violence. In addition, our newest initiative “A Way Through” aims to help women and children all over the US who have managed to escape abuse by providing them with money for rent, clothing, pampers, etc.

ABOUT MY SISTERS’ HAVEN

My Sister’s Haven is a nonprofit organization in Philadelphia run by Muslim women. All the women are survivors of domestic violence. They want to help as many women as possible escape the oppression of domestic violence and become survivors as they did.
