A Seven Year Old Syrian Refugee Needs Our Help

Mohammed Abdelmajeed is a 7 year old boy with a rare connective tissue genetic disorder.  Mohammed and his family are Syrian refugees currently living in a remote area in Turkey. He needs your help to get some basic needs and proper medical attention and services for his disease!

Our Goals to Help Mohammed

Mohammed and his family have no where to live at the moment. Because they did not have sufficient funds for rent, him and his family were asked to leave their last home two months ago. Our immediate goal is to find him and his family a home and provide them with some basic needs such as food. Mohammed also has a love for learning. His dream is to grow up to be a doctor yet he finds it hard to attend school. We hope to help further his education by hiring a tutor to work with him. We are currently also working to get him and his family registered with UNHCR in Turkey.

Finally our major long term goal is to find the right medical care that can help him with his disease. His family's financial situation is so impoverished that he has not yet been officially diagnosed with progeria. We have been in touch with several medical professionals specializing in progeria and other rare connective tissue genetic disorders who are willing to help him. They are working with us to assess Mohammed's medical needs at the moment. He will need to undergo additional medical and genetic tests to confirm his clinical diagnosis. Once we find this out, we will evaluate what the next steps for his medical care should be and update the campaign with any additional  information. 

How We Got Involved

A group of us came across this little boy's story through a video posted on social media. We felt so compelled by this amazing boys story that we began talking about ways we could help him and how to reach out to him. One discussion led to another, and before we knew it, we were able to get in touch with his family by phone and have been in contact with them to establish the needs of Mohammed and his family.

Campaign Update: January 23rd 2017

Because of your kindness and generosity, Mohammed Abdelmajeed and his family now have a warm place to live, with a new stove, and some much needed food. We have increased the goal of the campaign to $7,500 as we are helping him and his family apply for refugee status with UNHCR. This will require passport applications for this family of 5.  We will keep updating you as the details of the specific needs of Mohammed are still being worked out.  In the meantime, here are two new pictures of Mohammed taken yesterday! The first shows Mohammed playing in his home warmed by a new stove in the background and the second is with a NuDay Syria representative visiting Mohammed.

Campaign Update: February 16th 2017

Mohammed and his father have traveled from their remote village in Turkey to Istanbul to get some medical tests done. He is currently in Istanbul at the moment. The medical test results will be forwarded to doctors to determine where he can receive the best care. Here are a few pictures of Mohammed in Istanbul taken by the NuDay Syria team. Also, applications for registering Mohammed and his family with UNHCR are underway. He has been receiving toys and him and his family continue to receive food and rent support.
