A Journey Like No Other

ABOUT HIJRAH RIDE 1446

Hijrah Ride is a flagship partnership between Muntada Aid and H&KCC. This annual cycling event is a three-day marathon in which riders from various parts of the UK cycle from Mecca to Madinah, covering a distance of over 550 kilometres between the two of Islam's holiest mosques.

The journey symbolises the migration that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took as he fled persecution in Mecca and sought safety in Madinah.

The annual Hijrah Ride supports children suffering from various heart conditions, war and poverty.

It is the world's first and only such cycling ride

The fourth edition of Hijrah Ride, also known as Hijrah Ride 1446, will take place in January 2025.

During the first three editions of Hijrah Ride, we raised over £396,000 for projects helping children with healthcare & providing emergency aid to those fleeing war.

The Hijrah Ride aims to support children suffering from congenital heart defects, poverty and lack of education. The Hijrah Ride is a joint partnership between the club and Muntada Aid. We aim to help children regardless of gender, religion, culture and country. If we can facilitate and secure a safe future for children fleeing war persecution and having no means to proper healthcare, we will try to help them in whatever way we can.

WHO IS HIJRAH RIDE 1446 GOING TO HELP?

Due to the ongoing situation in Gaza, Hijrah Ride 1446 will again support people in the Gaza Strip. So far, we have provided food equivalent to over a million meals and thousands of pieces of winter clothing to children and families since October.

We aim to continue supporting these families through emergency aid, and when the situation stabilises, we will be helping in the rebuilding process.

LATEST FROM GAZA

The ongoing situation in Gaza is one of the most devastating human tragedies unfolding on a daily basis. The loss and suffering is unimaginable. There is imminent famine, and most of the healthcare and public services infrastructure has collapsed. Over 40,000 people have been killed, and nearly 100,000 people are reported injured. For people to survive inside Gaza, humanitarian agencies must be allowed to bring in aid much faster, and a regular flow must be guaranteed.

HOW YOU CAN HELP PEOPLE IN GAZA

A Donation of £65 Will Provide a Month’s Worth of Food Supplies for a Family in Gaza. Donating to this appeal is the best and quickest way to help support people in Gaza.

These donations enable us to respond quickly and help wherever needed.

HOW IS MUNTADA AID SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN GAZA

The Muntada Aid has reached over 80,000 people with food and medical aid. We have distributed over 2.6 million meals equivalent of food in Gaza.  Your donations will go towards family food parcels and baby food.

MUNTADA AID PTSD CLINIC IN GAZA

Muntada Aid, in partnership with Palestine Trauma Centre, runs a Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) centre for children and young adults in Gaza.

PTC UK provides support and training on the ground in Gaza both in-person and via technology, ensuring that help is never too far away.

IS AID GETTING INTO GAZA?

It is over 3 months since the Rafah border was closed for humanitarian aid. It was a critical route to transport into Gaza.

Since October 2023, when the war broke out, the Rafah border has remained one of the main crossings. The closure of this crucial route is not just exacerbating but significantly worsening an already dire situation. Only a tiny portion of aid is reaching Gaza, leaving the Muntada Aid team in Gaza delivering lifesaving aid with much-reduced resources.

Land-based delivery through the south of Gaza remains the most effective way to deliver aid. These roads are the main arteries for aid delivery and so have the most significant capacity.

IS THERE FAMINE IN GAZA?

A high risk of Famine persists across the whole Gaza Strip as long as conflict continues and humanitarian access is restricted.

About 96 percent of the population in the Gaza Strip (2.15M people) face high levels of acute food insecurity through September 2024.

While the whole territory is classified in Emergency (IPC Phase 4), over 495,000 people (22 percent of the population) are still facing catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 5). In this phase, households experience an extreme lack of food, starvation, and exhaustion of coping capacities.

745,000 people (33 percent) are classified in Emergency (IPC Phase 4).

STATE OF HEALTH SERVICES IN GAZA

The healthcare system in Gaza has all but collapsed. Most hospitals have closed due to damage, insecurity or lack of fuel and supplies.

Health workers have faced unimaginable challenges over the last ten months.

Since hostilities escalated, hundreds of medical and humanitarian workers have lost their lives while trying to deliver essential medical care and aid.

HOMELESSNESS IN GAZA

A million people have been forced to evacuate Rafah since the start of May, and people have been displaced up to six times. There is nowhere safe in Gaza for people to go, and nowhere that can adequately meet people’s basic needs.

Many have sought shelter in Rafah, having already been displaced multiple times along the way. Men, women and children have walked for days past horrific scenes of death and destruction, sometimes losing family members throughout the journey.

People are struggling to live with dignity in makeshift tents next to waste or sewerage areas; many are sleeping in the open, or trying to cover themselves with cardboard and scraps of wood.

Those able to find a space in a displacement camp have just one square metre per person. Many shelters lack sufficient ventilation and over half are soaked by water and rain - infectious diseases are spreading rapidly, and vulnerable people are dying.

HOW TO HELP PEOPLE IN GAZA

Donating to our emergency appeal is the best way to help people in Gaza.

The Muntada Aid team has been working with various communities in Gaza, supporting people affected by the war for many years before that.

WHERE WILL YOUR MONEY GO?

The donations made to the Gaza Appeal provide food, emergency aid, and trauma support. We are not using the contributions for any other appeal. We are serving people in Gaza through our partners on the ground, and we will continue to provide this support as long as possible.
