Hundreds of Lives Lost in Cianjur Quake, Left Thousands Other Homeless!

A few days after the disaster, the Cianjur earthquake caused so many casualties that immediate assistance from the international community is urgently needed!
The devastation caused by the Cianjur of Indonesia earthquake is almost beyond imagination. More than 270 passed away, most of them children. Hundreds were injured and several people are still missing. Thousands of buildings crumbled and more than 50,000 people were displaced from their homes.
So why did the 5.6-magnitude quake cause so much damage?
As quoted by News10, a geology expert from Universitas Gajah Mada, Indonesia, Gayatri Marliyani, said, “Even though the earthquake was medium-sized, it (was) close to the surface … and located inland, close to where people live.”
Until today, more than 263 aftershocks were recorded. As the cold and rainy weather comes, the refugees need more proper shelter and food.
Masjid Nusantara responded within two hours after the quake hit. We sent 14 volunteers to deliver these aids:
- 7.200 food packages
- 500 packs of hygiene kit
- 100 packs of medicine
- 50 packs of baby and women’s equipment
- 30 packs of the burial shroud
- 30 pcs of blanket
- 20 pcs of tarpaulin
- 1 Mobile Masjid

Jazakumullah khairan. Many of the refugees’ needs have been fulfilled thanks to your help.
Additionally, Masjid Nusantara conducted a door-to-door visit to refugee settlements outside the main camp. The elderly and infants are the main targets.
Our medical volunteer, Ainun, checked the infants' and elderly patients' health during this visit before giving basic treatment.
Alhamdulillah, thanks to your help, hundreds of people in Cianjur now have access to clean water.
This help is crucial when there are some clean water shortages caused by earthquakes and landslides that have damaged infrastructure.
