One Year Ago… I Couldn’t Run for a Bus. If you told me that I’d be training a marathon, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Now, I’m preparing to run 42.195km in Istanbul this November —a full marathon. But this isn’t just about crossing a finish line. It’s about something much bigger.

I’ve enlisted the help of Sajad for motivational support. Saj isn’t a runner—far from it—but he is an expert in getting on my nerves. His emotional support (read: relentless banter and zero sympathy) will keep me on the straight and narrow. He’s already taken his role very seriously, reminding me daily that I “chose this pain” and questioning my life decisions every time I complain about sore legs.

Truth be told, I need him. When the long runs feel impossible, when my legs feel like lead, and when I start convincing myself that 42.195km is a terrible idea, Saj will be there. Probably in my ear, probably roasting me, but definitely making sure I don’t give up.
