Riyad Rasheed, 29, departed this world on Sunday, November 29, 2020. He is survived by his beloved parents, Abdul and Saimun Rasheed, his older brother, Rizwan Rasheed and his older sister Shazia Rafiq. He is deeply missed by his family, community and friends from far and wide.

We remember Riyad for being the light that filled any room. A magnetic young man who always wanted to see people laugh and smile. He was a kind and ambitious soul. One who would not hesitate to help others with unconditional love and care. Riyad was apart of many local soccer teams in BC and within the Fijian community.

He was a highly talented athlete who worked hard on and off the field. With his natural leadership qualities, he inspired and uplifted his peers. His presence alone brought out the best in everyone. Pages can flow from each and every person that had the honour of having him in their life.

Riyad truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, travelling and spending time with his parents. Riyad had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. He would go to great lengths to protect those he loved and always said the right things when you needed to hear them.

At one week since his passing, we come together to support charitable initiatives that will touch the community just like Riyad did during his short time here on earth. Funds will be raised towards meaningful acts of Sadaqa Jariyah (ongoing charity that persists long after death) with proceeds dedicated in Riyad’s name to continue on his legacy and creating a positive impact by building a well in Kosovo.

We are currently working with Islamic Relief Canada with the above and will continue to provide updates on this page. We welcome family and friends to share this widely so they may join us in honouring Riyad’s memory. 

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When the human being dies, his deeds end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
