Hi, my name is Lamiya and 2 years ago I graduated from Harvard Divinity School with a Masters degree in Islamic Studies. Thanks to ISF's generous scholarship, I was able to pursue and focus on my studies with more financial security. Every since I graduated, I have been working to empower the New York Muslim community through grassroots community building in partnership with over 90 Muslim organizations. I have always wanted to serve my community, and feel so grateful to be able to do so. Had it not been for ISF's support for Muslim students during their prime years of self-exploration and growth, many of us would not be in positions that we hold today to continue empowering and representing our communities. EMPOWERING FUTURE LEADERS
Imagine a world where religion, culture, and race are no longer barriers to equity and equality. ISF is achieving this vision by increasing Muslim representation in media/journalism, policy/government, law, and film. As an incubator for American Muslim leaders in these fields, we proudly offer programs that have furthered the success of some 400 Muslim students and young professionals. Our comprehensive Cycle of Support begins with scholarships and mentorships, then continues with internships and fellowships to help ISF changemakers launch their careers. This model is already thriving under our policy umbrella and will be expanded to our law, media, and film fields in 2021 and the years to come.
WHY GIVE TO ISF?
Few organizations like ISF exist. ISF changemakers address critically important topics, such as Islamophobia, racial and social justice, Muslim representation, equity, and more. They work at some of the most reputable human rights, media, and policy organizations, including Human Rights Watch, the United Nations, ABC & NBC News, Al Jazeera English, U.S. District Courts, and ACLU.
AMPLIFYING THE MUSLIM VOICE
ISF empowers Muslim students, filmmakers, and young policy and media professionals to change the status quo and make our voices heard! We are only 1 of 5 scholarship programs for American Muslim students, offer the first American Muslim Film Grant, and the first American Muslim Congressional Fellowship.
COVID HIT CLOSE TO HOME
Like many nonprofits, COVID hit ISF hard. Staff contracted the virus, donors were unable to give due to unemployment and life transition, and our students and alumni faced various struggles studying and working from home. We still made tremendous strides, but were affected financially and programmatically. This Ramadan, especially, we could use your support!
