Our Challenge

Alhamdulillah, we have a wonderful problem—we've outgrown our current building! With 240 students from K3 to 12th grade, our school continues to thrive, and demand is increasing. Due to recent school choice legislation and new scholarship opportunities in Alabama, we anticipate a significant influx of students. We already have waiting lists in three classes, and this number is expected to grow in the coming school year. To continue providing quality education in a safe and nurturing environment, we urgently need more space to accommodate our expanding student body.

Our Story

The Islamic Academy of Alabama is a non-profit private school and was founded in 1996 in Birmingham, Alabama. What started as a small preschool quickly gained the attention of Muslim community members and by the second year had grown to a fledgling elementary school. Alhamdulillah, we were able to purchase an existing school building and through the years have renovated and updated it to include 12 large classrooms, computer lab, science lab, Quran lab, ESL facilities, library, lunchroom, playground and soccer field and administrative offices in addition to a separate preschool building. Currently, we serve 240 students from 18 different countries and employ 28 teachers

As a strong STEM-focused school, we are committed to providing students with hands-on learning opportunities, but our current space limits our ability to expand our labs and STEM activities. Additionally, our students excel in sports and are now incorporated into the City of Homewood League. However, we lack adequate space for training and hosting games, which is why securing a new facility is crucial for our continued growth.

We are dedicated to educating our students using Islamic and innovative educational methods while encouraging them to be noble individuals spiritually, morally, and ethically and providing them with the tools to achieve academic excellence and strong leadership abilities. The Islamic Academy is fully accredited by Cognia as a “School of Distinction” and is a fully recognized and competitive private school in Alabama.

Our Plan

To meet our growing needs, our Expansion Committee has identified a suitable property less than 10 miles from our current campus. In partnership with the Birmingham Islamic Society, we are working to secure this property to expand our school and provide more students with access to quality education. Our share of the down payment is $1,500,000, and we are committed to raising these funds with the support of our community. With the help of Allah and the generosity of our donors and supporters, we are confident that we can achieve this milestone and take the Islamic Academy of Alabama to the next level.
