Dear brothers and sisters, our community has recently been devastated by a tragic event affecting a very dear sister and her children. Sr. Kareemah (Natasha Price) has been a part of our local Muslim community for over 20 years. Her children attended Al-Huda school and her family was one of the cornerstones of the old Ayah community in Laurel. It is with great sadness to inform you that our sister was shot on Thursday morning 9/17/2020 by her husband and children's stepfather (he is now in custody).

She sustained gunshot wounds to her arm and neck, leaving her with a fracture to her cervical spine that may leave her paralyzed from the neck down. She is currently in a coma, unresponsive, and according to the doctors, with a slim chance of survival. Her children are clearly devastated, confused, and struggling with the trauma and its uncertainty, and yet still need to address daily needs and continue daily activities of work and schooling. They are young adolescents and adults with meager means to handle such a tremendous test and task. They range in age from 15-25 and are now living in a one-bedroom apartment trying to sort out what to do next.

I ask the community to open their hearts to this family and donate generously. Let's rally behind these well-deserving children so they can focus on their mother. The funds we are collecting will go to sustain them for the next year. It will cover rent, utilities, food, grief counseling, and any other unexpected expenses. They will need to move into a larger apartment, as we work to move them out of the house where the crime took place and find a safe place where they can begin their recovery. As stated earlier they are living together with their sister and brother in a one-bedroom apartment.

To God we belong and to Him we shall return, those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure. Please continue praying that God gives Kareemah complete healing without any trace of deformity or disability. May He remove this trial and test from her and return her to a life of peace and tranquility. May he forgive her of all her sins and grant her Jannah al Firdous for enduring the hardships she has been tested with. May He, ta a'la, give her children strength, patience and reliance on him and may we, as a community, show our support with prayer and financial sustenance. That we come together as believers to uplift and stand beside those that are being challenged with tragedies and unfortunate circumstances.
