Khalifah is a 5-episode web series that promotes Prophet Muhammad’s teachings and reminders about living one’s life as a Muslim. The series is set at a central location where moral, religious and spiritual decay are displayed on a daily basis. Although it will follow the conventional narrative structure of storytelling, it will also have intercutting scenes inserted with verses from the holy Quran and Hadiths to help drive the impact and importance of some scenes.

Synopsis        

A teenager, Aqil, resides in a rental apartment with his single mother, Suraya, who works as a bar hostess. Aqil gets increasingly frustrated with the toxic environment around him as he is surrounded by neighbours who are morally-bankrupt and possess unpleasant traits and characteristics. Among them is a drug pusher, a perverted old man, and his acid-tongued wife, a young couple involved in vice activities and a disgruntled man living with his handicapped brother. Yearning for a change in his environment, Aqil wished for a miracle and it came in the form of a new religious neighbour, Umar. As he befriends Umar, Aqil discovers more about the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and starts to change his daily routine and behaviour. Aqil and Umar’s friendship is not a welcomed sight among the other neighbours and they try different ways and hatch several plans to expose Umar as a dangerous fraud. When Suraya quits her job and starts to change her ways to be a better Muslimah for her son, some of the neighbours start to follow suit and seek to learn more religious knowledge from Umar. Umar’s influence and teachings starts to spread to all the Muslim residents in that apartment block until his identity is questioned on one fateful day.
