DisOccupied is an app(ish) that tells you what products to avoid and provides you with better alternatives. 
 

DisOccupied has 4 simple goals.

1. Pressure businesses to shift their public & corporate practices in favor of Palestine
2. Redirect consumers to purchase alternative products from socially conscious businesses
3. Reduce the economic and political influence of multinational companies
4. Make conscious spending in favor of human rights a consumer norm

Our Story

Founders Nadia and Shehzad, a Palestinian-Kashmiri couple, were frustrated by the need for more information to make conscious spending decisions. So, this art teacher and financial analyst got to work researching their everyday purchase decisions…they wanted to share their learnings with their friends and networks. This grew to a dataset of over 5000 brands ranked on a 6-level system, including thousands of safe alternatives. In February of 2024, they took their research and launched the DisOccupied website.

They’ve been running the operation part-time until now; working in their free time with help from volunteers, using their savings, and asking friends and family to pitch in. 

There's much more work to do. Now that the site has received over 10 million views from all over the world and 15,000 alternative brand submissions have come pouring in, they need your help to launch the DisOccupied 2.0 app and updated website!
