What is the problem?

Gaza is facing a severe, life-threatening water crisis. Due to blockades by the Israeli government, there is no source of incoming fresh water into Gaza. Because of this, 95% of the water in Gaza is unfit for human consumption. That means 2.1 million people in the region are unable to access clean water. The only source of water is the coastal water, which is deteriorating from seawater, intrusion and pollution.

What is MAA doing?

The Muslim Athletic Association (MAA) is teaming up with Penny Appeal Canada to fundraise for Desalination Units in schools in Gaza, which will provide clean water access to approximately 2,000 students, teachers and administrators!

This will help prevent water-borne diseases from unsanitary water supplies, clean drinking water to thousands. 
Each Desalination Unit also is solar powered, meaning there is no risk of the water source being disrupted by energy shut offs and power outages, and helps rehabilitate entire communities through clean renewable energy.

Clean water is a basic human right, that's why it's so important we help provide that to our brothers and sisters suffering through human rights crises in Gaza.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon Him) said, ‘Allah the Exalted and Glorious, will say on the Day of Resurrection, “O son of Adam, I asked you for something to drink but you did not give it to me.” He will say, “O Lord, how can I give You something to drink when You are the Lord of the worlds?” Allah (SWT) will say, “My servant so-and-so asked you to give him something to drink and you did not give it to him.
