Madina Masjid has served the Muslim community in New York City since the 1970s. It is the oldest masjid in Manhattan, and as you can imagine, almost five decades ago, there were only a handful of masjids around. It began as a basement masjid, eventually expanding to a multi-story complex.
Acting as a place of refuge, shelter, and worship for the ever-growing Muslim population in the East Village and surrounding neighborhood, we are now looking to grow and renovate the structure to adapt to the needs of our community better. This renovation will not only enhance our facilities but also allow us to serve more people and provide better services.
Over the years, Madina Masjid has provided endless opportunities to congregants, including weekend and summer classes for kids. The classes covered both Islamic and secular studies, and quran memorization programs. In addition, it continues to offer community outreach and services, such as interfaith and dawah workshops, emergency disaster relief, brothers and sisters youth programs, health screenings, marriage services, funeral services, food distribution during Ramadan, clothing drives, and so much more.
Madina Masjid is foundational to the Muslims of the East Village and surrounding communities. Elders, youth, and even passersby alike have nurtured their faith and community here for decades. Generations of Muslims have grown up here, and it is imperative to improve and preserve it for the future generations. Alhamdulillah, we are thrilled to share some exciting updates with you all!
Thanks to your generous support and continuous duas, the construction of Madina Masjid is progressing beautifully. We have attached some new pictures showing the recent developments — walls are going up, the structure is taking shape, and the dream of a new house of Allah is coming closer to reality!
