Memphis Dawah Association (MDA) is looking to acquire funds and materials to complete the renovation of two of our properties. One to become a Masjid and Headquarters for Memphis Dawah Association, Masjid al-Hidayah, and the other to become a K 12 private school, Chinar Islamic Academy.
This project was born out of the need to implement the maqasaid al shariah and the fard kifiyaah to establish a Muslim community to preserve and protect our religion for future generations.
We are working with a Turkish construction company for the demolition and reconstruction of the buildings currently. The estimate for this project is 2.4 million which includes labor and material. Through loans from individuals of $350K and acquirement of $300K of Turkish marble, we are left with 1.75 million to complete this project, In Sha Allah.
Currently, we are operating a mobile food pantry that fed over 13,000 families since the COVID pandemic. Memphis Dawah Association (MDA) is an organization that exists to help the Whitehaven community, muslim and non-muslim alike. Currently, we are operating a weekly mobile food pantry where we give out food to 400-500 families each week. So far MDA has handed out over 30k food packages since the COVID pandemic.
The Kulliye has been designated a farm by the USDA, with an apprenticeship program for agriculture and agricultural sciences with plans to establish a farmers’ market to deal with the fresh food shortages in Whitehaven.
In keeping with Islamic tradition, a garden/farm plot is part of the Kulliye. From the Alhambra, the Great Mosque of Spain, the Ottoman landscapes, and the Taj Mahal, Islamic gardens contribute to the stimulation of the senses and enhance a person's experience within the garden. A major focus of the Islamic gardens was to provide a sensory experience, which was accomplished by using water and aromatic plants. Grapes, pomegranates, dates and date trees, apples, figs, grapevine branches, cypresses, fruit trees, and flowers like tulips, carnations, and roses were common garden items. Islamic gardens are intended for rest, reflection, and contemplation.
Memphis Dawah Association (MDA) also operates a local community radio station, and we are working on renovating a gym to be used by the community and the only public non-school affiliated gym in Whitehaven. We have weekly online lessons on Islamic topics such as the fundamentals of Islam, the Manners of Muslims, and the Qur’an/Hadith. However, we also have secular topics such as nutrition and personal development. In partnership with the Civilizations Exchange and Cooperation Foundation (CECF), we also offer study abroad and Umrah opportunities, as well as a Sports initiative.

(Arabic: كلية) is a nexus of buildings associated with Ottoman architecture centered around a mosque and managed within a single institution, often based on a waqf (charitable foundation) and composed of a madrasa (school), a Dar al-Shifa(“clinic”), kitchens, bakery, Turkish bath, other buildings for various charitable services for the community and further annexes. The term is derived from the Arabic word kull “all”.The külliye concept is based on the earliest form of the mosque. The mosque was not only used as a structure for praying but also as a place for eating, teaching, and as a hostel for the poor and other social aims. The structure of the külliye is derived from such a concept. Instead of using one mosque for various services, other buildings were built to center on the mosque that provided the specific services. It was a welcoming place where the public’s social, cultural, health, and spiritual needs were met. It is our intention to honor this tradition by bringing “the Kulliye” to the Whitehaven area and throughout the city.
