Masjid Al-Muhsineen

Imam Saulih Abdurrauf jointly presides over Masjid Ashura (also known as the Family Center) located at 6830 Old York Road. With the closure of our present location, it became necessary to rebuild the community at another location. Since our community is committed to servicing Muslims and non-Muslims in the uptown section of Philadelphia, it became important to remain as close to our present location as possible. The Masjid has an official opening date of August 1, 2016, however, we hope to be able to atleast house Jumah prayer at our new location as of July22, 2016. 

Imam Saulih has been a stalwart Islamic leader in the Philadelphia Islamic Community. Fully fluent in two languages, Arabic and English, Imam Saulih has traveled to many locations throughout the Middle East in order to acquire knowledge and bring it back to the city of Philadelphia. He has worked in the community for well over four decades and has created a family and legacy that's well respected within the Philadelphia area.

Masjid Al-Muhsineen will be the vessel through which Imam Saulih will continue to share the knowledge that he's gained with the Muslim and non-Muslim residents of this city. With more than 200,000 Muslims in Philadelphia, it becomes imperative to create spaces where Muslim men, women, and children can comfortably congregate, gain knowledge about the religion, and gather for special events that are cornerstones to the building of community.

Why Another Masjid?

There aren't many Masjids in Uptown, the Family Center served as a convenient, welcoming, and family centered space for many Muslims in the area. When it closes its doors within the next couple of weeks, many Muslims will have to travel out of their way to find another masjid that will provide the services needed  to build a strong and lasting Islamic community.

In addition, Philadelphia currently does not have a Masjid that can hold hundreds of Muslims at a time, as a result, the need is great for additional spaces of worship especially considering the rate at which Islam is growing. Helping to fund this project certainly will provide blessings that will continue into death. Furthermore, in Hadith, The Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu Alayhi Was Salaam) said: “Whoever builds a masjid for Allah, Allah will build for him likewise in Paradise.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim]. This underscores the importance of providing a place of worship for believing Muslim men, women and children. We also hope to grow this masjid into a school for Muslim children.
