Surau Medan Idaman, Kuala Lumpur fondly referred to as Masjid Arab, had its humble beginning with a praying capacity of 3,000 sq ft in a half an acre site in the then Lee Rubber Estates, now called Medan Idaman.
 It was fondly referred to as Masjid Arab even today because of the number of foreigners who lived around there and who virtually occupied the surau during every prayer time.  They were mostly from Yemen and played a key role in developing the surau into what it is today. The surau currently occupies almost all of the land around the original prayer hall, expended over time by the generosity of the Jema’ah and the general public.

The challenge:

During Friday's prayers as well as during the two Eids and Tarawih prayers in Ramadan, the Jemaah overflows to two remaining spaces around the surau. These two spaces are of grass and tarmac surfaces without any roof.  Many a time Jema’ah actually overflows to the walkway outside the surau, as seen in the pictures.

The proposal is to cement the two areas as well as to provide roofing to accommodate the increasing number of Jemaah during peak prayer times. The area to be cemented and covered with the proper roof is 2,500 sq. feet and is estimated to costs $10650. The surau committee is reaching out to generous donors like yourselves to help them ease the inconveniences faced by the Jemaah during prayers.
