Sri Lanka Muslim Welfare Association of West Yorkshire (SLMWA).

SLMWA consists of a total of 80 families in West Yorkshire with the majority of them residing in the Batley and Dewsbury area and has been growing ever since it was founded in 2014.

The focus mainly is to create a vibrant and supportive communnity which will contribute to increasing cultural awareness and the development within the community and the outside as well.

Overview

We have identified a suitable property (a pub) located in a well-known neighbourhood which can be converted into a masjid with the help and guidance of Allah (SWT).

The offer given by the landlord is 270,000 to be sourced before the end of Ramadan.

Purpose

Religious Needs: The mosque provides a space for Muslims to gather for daily prayer, Friday congregational prayer (Jummah), and other special prayers during the month of Ramadan.

Cultural Identity: For the Sri Lankan Community of West Yorkshire this would serve as a symbol of their cultural and religious identity.

Educational Center : This can also be used to offer educational programs for the community and classes on Qur’an , Arabic language, and other relevant subjects which would benefit the entire community.

Social Support : This mosque will provide a space for social interaction and support among community members.

Community Service : Many mosques offer social services such as counselling, financial advice, and other outreach

programs to support members of the public.

Interfaith and Outreach: The mosque plays a crucial role in facilitating the integration of Sri Lankan Muslims into the broader community of West Yorkshire community by engaging in interfaith dialogue, community outreach and charitable initiatives.
