Who is Al Isharah?
Al Isharah makes Islam accessible to the Deaf community. They are a unique organisation that has been providing our services for over 14 years now! 

They provide specialist Islamic classes for Deaf children in Sign Language, teach Deaf adults, interpret Khutbah’s into BSL and they are in the process of translating the Qur’an into British Sign Language. Al Isharah do this, so like every other person, Deaf people can worship Allah (swt) upon understanding. 

Al Isharah consider that they are fulfilling a communal obligation (fard kifaya) on behalf of the Muslim community through their specialist team comprising of Deaf and hearing Teachers, Interpreters, audiologists, Consultants and Communication Support Workers, 

Alhamdulillah, they have been able to set up various other services including
- Deaf Marriage service
- Deaf Umrah / Hajj
- Monthly Islamic lectures
- Access to imams & scholars for day-to-day struggles
- And our most notable project: The BSL Quran Project

Students from the Al Isharah school like Abdullah Rijab and Zahid were both born Deaf. Being Deaf brings a world of struggles. Not being able to communicate in everyday life with most people can make the world a lonely place. As a result, Deaf people are twice as likely to suffer from mental health problems than others. The situation is further compounded by the fact that very little Islamic resources or services exist especially for the Deaf. However, Al Isharah believe that a connection with Allah is an absolute right that should be afforded to every Deaf person.

Every day they come across Deaf people who simply want to worship Allah, who want to know how to pray, how to make dua and how to fast etc. We don't want them living in isolation.  We ask you to ‘hear their call and connect our worlds’.

Al Isharah exists for people like Abdullah and Zahid. It is through their services that Abdullah and Zahid have been able to learn the basic day-to-day requirements of Islam; Who is Allah, who is our Prophet, how do you make wudhu, how do you pray, etc. Despite being Deaf, with the help of their specialists, students are even able to memorise parts of the Quran (in Arabic and BSL). 

How can your donation help the Deaf Community?

Al Isharah need the help of the community to support these essential services. Your donations will be an ongoing charity (sadaqah jaariya) inshaAllah. 

The Prophet (saw) said,  “When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: an ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a child who prays for them.”

(Sahih Muslim)

• They will continue to create Islamic video resources
• Provide specialist classes for Deaf children
• They will provide interpretation of the Khutbah in to British Sign Language
• Al Isharah hope to establish more branches of our school across various locations
• They are also on a drive to create resources and continue delivering our services for the Deaf community. Using these available resources, Deaf people will learn basic things such as how to make wudhu, how to pray, and how to recite Quran (for oral Deaf people).
