The Problem

Do you like bread? Who doesn’t?

Although a loaf of bread might seem like a small thing, it can mean the world to someone starving. Since 2015, Yemenis have been in the middle of a civil war. The conflict has left 22 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including 17 million food insecure.

It’s hard to wrap your head around such a large number, but what does this mean for everyday people?

Deprived of hope and facing starvation, many people resort to desperate survival measures.

• Millions of children are out of school and at risk of being recruited into the fighting.
• Breadwinners are struggling to provide for their families.
• Hospitals and infrastructure have been destroyed.
• The existing health facilities are overwhelmed and lack trained staff and essential supplies.

The Solution

The Quran points out what we ought to do.

“Those who in charity spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public, have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve” (2:274)

Our brothers and sisters in Yemen are in need, and we have a responsibility to help them.

What Do We Need?

Mercy Bakery is bringing hope to thousands of Yemenis, but we need your help to reach more people.

But we can only do so much. We need your input to continue our work. You can donate to help us:

• Get supplies for our Mercy Bakery. We need flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and vegetable oil to make our bread.
• Transport the bread to those who need it most. We need fuel for our Mercy Bakery vans to deliver the bread to families in need.
• Train more bakers. We need your help to train more Yemeni bakers to continue providing bread for those in need.

Mercy Bakery relies on volunteers to minimize the overhead costs. Therefore, your donation goes to where it is needed most- hunger alleviation in Yemen.

Mercy Bakery has 8 bakeries across Yemen. The first branch was opened up in Sana’a, Yemen, in August of 2018. 

Mercy Bakery’s goal is to provide at least 28,000 loaves of bread a day to families in need, therefore providing a minimum of 840,000 loaves a month.

Who Are We?

Humanity for Relief and Development (HRD) is a non-profit organization founded in 2015. We were formally registered as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 2018. 

Since our inception, we have provided relief and development assistance to thousands of families in Yemen. 

Our goal is to help those in need and make a positive impact on the lives of others. We provide an opportunity for donors to help us make a difference in the lives of others.
