The Muslim Community Center (MCC/MEC) was forced to close its doors due to Covid-19, and Alhumdulilah, this Ramadan we are back together in our mosques, as #OneCommUNITY

Many of us have deep connections with MCC/MEC, and our organization has been a staple in the Chicago Muslim Community for over 50 years.

We are asking for your immediate financial assistance to help us fund our programs and daily operations at the mosque.

Due to the closures of our campuses, we had no physical way to collect funds, missing out on thousands of dollars of donations gathered during Daily Prayers, Jummah, Ramadan, and other organized events. 

We estimated a loss of donations due to closures to be near $1,000,000. 

As we re-open our doors, we have discovered that a lot of our facilities require maintenance and repair:

Roof at MEC - Heavy Leaking and Structural Issues of the Roof, worsened by significant snowfall this past winter

Tuckpointing at MEC Morton Grove - Brickwork needed to maintain exterior of the building and Minaret/Dome at Mosque

Now that we are open, offering five daily prayers, and Ramadan Taraweeh/Events we our use of utilities and overall expenses have also increased:

Heat/Electricity - Usage is nearing pre-pandemic levels (~$12,000 p/year)

Staffing - increased staffing needs to keep the mosque disinfected and following safety protocol

Security Services - being re-open means keeping our mosques secure, and our security expenses have increased by about 20% vs pre-pandemic

In addition to being a Masjid, we also collect funds to be able to give money to those who may need it most:

MCC/MEC gives close to $250,000 annually to different organizations locally, nationally, and internationally that are helping humanity for the betterment of society.

We also give close to $300,000 annually to people in our community that need help with Zakat. Our Zakat goes to assist refugees, domestic violence victims, the homeless, sick. As an aside, we ask that you also give your Zakat funds to help our local Muslim community.

SIMPLY PUT, 

WE CANNOT SUSTAIN OUR SERVICES OR MAINTAIN OUR HOUSES OF WORSHIP WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT. PLEASE DONATE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN TO HELP US.
