Bayan is committed to providing women with access to Islamic and interdisciplinary knowledge along with a range of skills that enhance authority and opportunities to make a significant impact in their communities. 

The Muslimah Changemaker Scholarship is heavily inspired by the example of Sayyidah Fatimah al-Fihriyyah– founding benefactor of the prestigious al-Qarawiyyin in Fes, Morocco, considered the oldest university in the world (est. 859 CE).  

Sayyidah Fatimah was empowered to support the pursuit of knowledge and worship, and changed the world with her commitment to institutionalizing knowledge production while welcoming scholars from across the globe.

It is vital to empower American Muslim women with prestigious, sound, and rigorous academic experiences so they can lead their communities prophetically and unapologetically.

The contribution of female Muslim scholars have been overlooked and there has been insufficient consideration regarding the female Muslim experience. There is a lack of physical and virtual spaces, and overall a general absence of accessible and valid, scholarly knowledge. 

With your help, we can change this. 

The Muslimah Changemaker Scholarship has the potential to not only give these female leaders financial support, but will also allow them to become a part of a group of other recipients where they can form strong bonds and create woman-exclusive networking opportunities.
