Thousands killed as huge earthquake rocks Turkey and Syria

$100 - Emergency aid - help us to provide urgent food, water and medical aid to survivors of the earthquake.

This could by Turkey’s largest earthquake. Buildings have collapsed, and hundreds are still unaccounted for. It’s feared that they’re trapped among the rubble of their homes and the rescue operation could be hampered by the current snowstorms which are expected to continue until Thursday.

Millions of Syrian refugees live close to the epicenter. Turkey is the world’s largest host of refugees with 3.7 million Syrians taking refuge in the country.

The healthcare system in Syria is overwhelmed and some hospitals have sadly been damaged by the earthquake.

Updates from the field:

First and for most, thank you to you all for your generosity. It's people like you that help make a difference, Alhamdulillah!

I wanted to give you a little update on what your donations helped us get up to recently. Please do spread the word. Reach out to family and friends.

  • Our Emergency Response Team in Syria are busy moving 1,000 Syrian families affected by the recent earthquake into the 1,000 homes we built in northwest Syria🏠Subhan'Allah! Today we re-homed 1,576 people in total, including children, pregnant women, caregivers, and breast-feeding women🙏These families lost everything in the earthquake. They were seeking shelter in plastic tents. We made the decision to move them into permanent homes so they can stay safe and protected during this critical time🏡The homes are part of a town settlement project by Human Appeal called Al Zohoor (in English the floral town) near Idlib northwest Syria, recently completed to provide permanent housing to 1,000 internally displaced Syrian families.
  • Today, we pledged to bring in 50 containers into Turkey to provide temporary housing. The Turkish government is setting up electricity and water to reach these trailers. These trailers will be sent over to Syria to continue to serve as temporary housing there as well.
  • Our staff visited the flood-site at Orontes River in northwest Syria, where the earthquake caused a dam to collapse.
  • We distributed oxygen generators to hospitals and ICUs in Idlib.
  • We distribute hot meals to 100 families affected by the earthquake in northwest Syria.
  • Our Al Imaan hospital continued to provide services for newborn babies and maternity cases. We were even able to successfully  conduct a c-section!
  • Our mobile clinics helped to support earthquake survivors in northern Syria.
  • Our nutrition experts distributed nutritional supplies to families affected by the earthquake.
  • 🚨We provided medical aid to earthquake survivors in the area of Maarat Misrin, Syria.
  • We provided 500 hot meals for around 200 displaced families from the Harem & Jinderes areas of Syria.
  • We distributed food to families seeking shelter in 6 schools across Şahinbey & Gaziantep in Turkey.
  • We continued to provide food to earthquake survivors in Antakya.
  • Our incredible team in Turkey are getting ready to pack 6000 ready to eat food parcels to families affected by the recent earthquake, helping to keep them safe and nourished during this critical time. Despite their own hardships, they’ve not failed to help others in need of aid too 🥺
  • The death toll from the Turkey-Syria earthquakes has increased. Those that survived, are struggling to survive in sub-zero temperatures without any shelter, food, and shelter to keep them warm and protected. Our team have already provided emergency response kits, hot food, and milk to earthquake survivors in Turkey, but we still need your help to reach more people.
