Orphaned children, having lost their father or both parents, are without a key source of support and protection, making them one of the most vulnerable groups in society.

Of the estimated 140 million orphans around the world, most live with a surviving parent, grandparent, or other extended family members. However, there remains an increased risk of becoming marginalised, destitute, or exploited.

Here, we are taking the opportunity to share and celebrate the stories of some inspiring individuals who have excelled with the help of the Orphan Sponsorship Programme.

Real Case Study Of Samina, Pakistan

Life has not been easy for Samina. Her mother passed away when Samina was 15, after her final exams in the 10th grade her father had her married off. Her first child was a daughter and this angered her husband, he wanted a son and became violent towards her. While she continued to face physical abuse from her husband she gave birth to another daughter, her husband reacted by having a second marriage. After sometime, he passed away and it became difficult for her to pay rent, she was forced to move to single-roomed accommodation.

Islamic Relief (IR) helped alleviate some of her burdens by sponsoring her daughters. Samina took on the role of group leader of an orphan guardian groups (OGG) formed by IR. It provided her with an opportunity to reach out to disadvantaged women. She listens them and works out solutions that is gratifying for her.

With the help of IR, she opened a tuition centre in December 2017.  It started with 10 students and now it has 32 students enrolled.

Now, Samina is earning enough to save as well as support her children and pay for the centre’s utilities.

Type of support we provide

Family Support : For just RM1,000 ($215) a month, you can help entire orphaned and vulnerable families with their essential needs. We believe that each family knows best what they require, and we aim to help meet their basic needs so they can live more of a dignified life. 

Higher Education : From as little as RM130 ($30) per month, you can help provide orphans with a university scholarship, so that they can attend university, gain a degree and then go onto a profession that enables them to break free from poverty.

Medical Care : A regular donation of RM130 ($30) every month provides medical care for an orphan, their siblings or guardian, when it is needed most.

Through various programs and activities carried out by Islamic Relief since 1986, these orphans were taken care of to have a better life. Islamic Relief had always striven to give a better future for orphans across the globe. They deserve all the joy and happiness.
