We carried out a survey to 150 youth. A question on the survey was: 

“If you were asked to pray right now are you confident you’ll be able to pray correctly?”

Only 7 of the 150 youth asked said they were confident they’d be able to pray correctly. That’s less than 5% that were confident they'd know how to pray correctly.

Just this Ramadan a young Muslim man was stabbed to death in front of his father by another young Muslim man. 

As a community, we have an obligation to call our youth back to Islam

Allah says in the Quran:

“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma‘roof (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful“
[Aal ‘Imraan 3:104]

Bonsai Trust aims to cultivate a commitment in youth to live faithfully and confidently whilst striving for the highest level of paradise

We have detailed, fun, engaging, educational and structured programmes in mosques and Islamic centers in London focusing on three route cause problems our youth face:

1. A lack of purpose - This includes:

- Being confident in knowing about the purpose of your existence

- Knowing what you're actually doing with your life.

2. A lack of good roles models - This includes:

- Mentors and teachers

- Freinds and peer group

- Historic role models

3. Strong positive Islamic characteristics - This includes:

- Having strong will power

- Being honest

- Being truthful

- Being humble

- Being positive

And much more!

If our youth are focused on their purpose of life, if they are surrounded by and benefit from good role models and are rooted in strong, positive Islamic characteristics, they’ll be able to safeguard their faith and navigate their lives in a way where everything they do will be for The highest level of paradise.

Not just for the youth, but also for the parents!

At Bonsai trust we take a holistic view to guiding our youth. The most effective way to do this is by empowering our parents with knowledge and the right network of people around them so that they are confident to nurture their children in the best way possible and create a safe haven at home.

Based on research, one of the biggest reasons why our youth suffer is due to issues with parenting and dysfunctional households, such as single parenting due to divorce etc.

This is something we plan to tackle head-on.

We have workshops taking place in mosques and Islamic centers for both mothers and fathers. 

In addition to this, we also plan to launch an online programme for our parents

On average it cost us £200 to support a youth for an entire year
