My Story

Domestic violence is an issue that is often  "swept under the rug" in the Muslim Community.  Often, women are advised to stay with their abuser and have "sabr"; religious texts are frequently misinterpreted to justify abuse.  Puellae is determined to educate and inspire the community to speak out against violence or seek the help they need. 

Why it Matters

According to the CDC, 1 in 4 women report experiencing domestic violence.  Among the Muslim population,  some studies estimate up to 18% of women experiencing violence and up to 30% experiencing psychological or verbal abuse.  Puellae's mission is to empower and educate women and help them tackle issues like poverty, violence and access to education. We believe these young ladies are our future and together, by building stronger women, that future can shine brighter.
