APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE FOR THE PURCHASE OF WAQF LAND FOR MAAHAD TAHFIZ ABDUSSALAM IN CHROY METREY, CAMBODIA.

Maahad Tahfiz Abdussalam is an educational institution which focuses on memorisation of the Quran, the teaching of classical Islamic education and producing graduates with good akhlaq. The maahad building was completed in 2020 and since then had a total of 60 students. All students are from poor families and the maahad provides free full-board education i.e. free food, accommodation and full-time education.  Alhamdulillah all the students have good akhlaq. The running costs of the maahad is met through annual fundraising and annual sponsorship of students. To date, a total of 10 students have completed memorising all 30 juz of the Quran.

The maahad is one of the projects under the Association for the Development of Cambodian Community (ADCC), a not-for-profit organisation in Cambodia. Cambodia is a Muslim-minority country and the rate of poverty among Muslims is extremely high. ADCC has been active in providing humanitarian aid in Cambodia e.g. building of wells for poor families, wudhu facilities for mosques, organising and distribution of Qurban meat, distribution of prayer garments etc.

The cost of the building for the maahad was funded through fundraising by generous donors and the land it was built on was originally given as waqf. Unfortunately, the owner of 1/3 of the waqf land has revoked his waqf intention and demanded the maahad tahfiz to make a payment of USD 30,000 by Sunday 26th May 2024, and has also threatened legal action if payment is not made by then. Any delays will add to the legal costs. Closure of the maahad is not an option as this will mean all 60 students will be deprived of education in addition to losing the building. If we do not raise enough money, we will have to resort to taking loans and we will still need donations to pay back the loan.

Both directors of PISANG, Dr Hamidi Abdul Rahman and Dr Nor Azian Ab Rahman, are also advisors of Maahad Tahfiz Abdussalam.
