Every year, the students of Islamic Knowledge at Al-Shafi'e Institute , under the supervision of Sheikh Ali Ahmed , embarks on various noble and prestigious missions in several places in Malaysia.

2017: Distributed Ramadan food packages to over 100 families and cooked for over 250 students of various Tahfiz school in Malaysia

2016: Set up Rohingya Quran School in Langkawi, Malaysia

2015: Food distribution, 1 month food supply to 500 families in Ampang, Malaysia.

2015: Medical check=up for the Rohingya Refugees in Penang, Malaysia

2015: Sponsored several months of food supply to the Rohingya Quran School

Current Project: Quran For Life

This year, the students of Islamic Knowledge at Al-Shafi'e Institute , under the supervision of Sheikh Ali Ahmed , is embarking on a noble and prestigious mission of distributing the Book of Allah, a cure and healing for all physical and spiritual ailments, to all to all hospitals and prisons in Malaysia. 

This project, “Quran For Life” will take place in January 2019 InshaAllah.  Unlike other projects, this will be done at an unprecedented scale for the first time in Malaysia, distributing a total of 50,000 Qurans absolutely for FREE!. 

The first pilot project will be launched at the Hospital Putrajaya.

Objectives of ‘Quran For Life’

1. Quran Brings Solace to Patients with Anxiety & Depression

During times of need people tend to turn to religion in order to find solace, strength and comfort.  This is more so with patients and people afflicted with various illnesses.  Many research shows that religion help reduce a patient’s anxiety and has a positive impact on the well-being of those patients.  Based on an article by M.J. Pearce, a clinical psychologist,  a number of studies showed that religion interventions helps improve their psychological well-being compared to other interventions. In Islam the Quran are the words of Allah and can be used to connect with Him and obtain the healing powers contained within it.

According to another research article, there are numerous studies stating the effects of the Quran in helping reduce anxiety and stress from patients. According to an article in the U.S. National Institute of Health, Quran helped in reducing anxiety and depression of those who were diagnosed with cancer.

For these, and many other reasons, Al-Shafi’e Institute’s main objective in distributing the Quran to every hospital ward is to bring spiritual uplift, comfort and hope in times when patients most need it.

1. Quran Brings Hope to Patients

In verse 28 of Surah Ra'd, Allah highlights a statement on the benefits of remembering Allah and what it does to people's hearts.  Allah says:

"Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured."

There are various sources that points out listening to the melodious recitation of the Quran will address depression as well as emotional and psychological problems. High number of patients suffer from psychological and emotional distress related by being in the hospital. Patients who have access to the Quran, will be able to regulate their emotional and psychological wellbeing from reciting and reflecting from the verse of the Quran. In the future, this will help in their rehabilitation process and reintegration in the society once released from the hospital.
