Construction of a brand-new school for 240 children from poverty-stricken families in Mishtimba Village, in Pakistan

The Best Investment

Successful business people build their businesses with a keen eye on the return on their investment. Giving charity is no different, which is why we present an excellent opportunity for you to invest in the construction of a new school.

Your investment will benefit 240 orphaned and needy children, a large proportion of whom are from poverty-stricken families. However, the beneficial return on your investment continues, as described in the following prophetic statement:

When a man passes away, all of his good deeds come to an end except three; perpetual charity, knowledge that people benefit from, righteous children that pray for him.

Supporting the construction of Mishtimba School can tick all three of the criteria detailed in the quoted saying by the prophet (pbuh). Plus, the return on your investment is perpetual over generations of children who will study at the school you help build.

Imagine the impact that you can have on the children in this school, and the communities that they will go out into when they have completed their education. We know that education has a transformative effect on lives, as it empowers children, giving them new opportunities to excel and develop a better future for themselves.

This is your opportunity to make a lasting difference to the children in this community for generations to come, whilst earning an immense amount of divine blessings and reward for yourself.

Mishtimba School: The Vision

Key Features

The project will deliver:

  1. A new school building measuring approximately 5000sqft, with enough capacity to accommodate 240 children in kindergarten, primary and lower-secondary (middle) grades.
  2. Brand new fully furnished classrooms and staffrooms, as well as safe drinking water and washroom facilities.
  3. Protective fencing surrounding all the school premises.
  4. Additional teaching aids and materials to support the children’s learning.

Project Objectives

The main objectives of the project are:

  • To impart a high standard of education to the orphaned and needy children of Mishtimba within an enhanced learning environment.
  • To empower the children of Mishtimba to become well rounded individuals, equipped with the skills and aspiration to avail opportunities for a better life.

Seismic Compliance

The school is designed within earthquake protection guidelines, as Mishtimba lies within Seismic Zone 4, which is the highest category of seismic activity. The following are further renderings of the proposed building.

Mishtimba School: The Current Reality

READ Foundation started its school at Mishtimba in 2000 in an effort to provide educational opportunities to the community in this incredibly remote region. Total enrolment opened with just one classroom and one teacher, whilst today the school’s population comprises 132 boys and 87 girls from kindergarten through to eighth grade.

The current building was built as a temporary structure but has been in operation as a school now for almost 20 years. During that time, the facilities have become woefully inadequate in promoting a healthy and productive learning environment. There are no water and sanitation facilities which forces inconsistent attendance in pubescent girls. Plus, the lack of electricity leaves most classrooms dark making it difficult for children to properly engage during class.

About Mishtimba Village

Mishtimba, located approximately 160km, or a five-hour drive, north of Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, is an established settlement that was severely affected by the earthquake in October 2005, and whose population continues to piece together their lives to this day.

About READ Foundation

READ Foundation is an NGO focused on creating opportunities for children affected by poverty to go to a good school. To this end we build new and renovate old dilapidated schools, as well as provide full scholarships to orphaned children who are otherwise unable to access education.

We started this important work in 1994 with just one teacher and one classroom, but now almost 25 years later, we are providing an education to over 100,000 children across 382 of our own schools.

However, despite the numbers we remain focused on ensuring that teaching standards are high by investing in the ongoing training and development of our teaching staff. The results speak for themselves, as every year READ Foundation students achieve amongst the highest marks nationally in their SSC (GCSE) and HSSC (A level). For example, in 2017 it was a READ Foundation student who achieved the highest score nationally, with 1082/1100. Learn more about the progress of our work and its impact on children’s education.
