Reclaiming Malcolm X's Legacy Campaign 

The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center is the site where Malcolm X was assassinated 53 years ago. In 1995, Dr. Betty Shabazz set about to found an institution that would permit the courageous work of her late-husband, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz - Malcolm X, to continue into the 21st Century. 

With support from the community, Dr. Shabazz was able to negotiate an agreement between Columbia University and the Economic Development Corporation City of New York to retain up to 40 percent of the original Audubon Ballroom. The Shabazz Center transforms the historic site of Malcolm X's martyrdom into an oasis of support for the ongoing struggle for social justice. The Center is 501(c)(3).

The goal of this Campaign is to not only revive the Center but to ensure that it serves as a world class memorial site documenting the legacy of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz for the benefit of future generations. This Campaign is one of a series of fundraisers intended to provide the resources necessary to revive and rebuild the Shabazz Center. As supporters of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz, we call on you to get involved and make a donation today. We ask you to help us meet the goal of $200,000 by May 19, 2018, the 93rd Birthday of Malcolm X.

Below are only a few of the items we plan to do with the proceeds of this Campaign: 

• Hiring an Executive Director and a team of experts to launch, and maintain programming and operations.

• Updating the infrastructure, technology, and interior of the Center.

• Providing public programs and educational activities that encourage scholarship and empowerment for the community

• Creating multimedia productions on Malcolm X's legacy

• Sponsoring extensive research on Post-Pilgrimage Malcolm X; El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz

• Offering scholarship opportunities to young African American students
