To Allah we belong and to Him, we shall return

Sr. Uzma Latif (also known with her last name Uzma Awan) was a beloved daughter, sister, teacher, friend, cherished aunt, and caring colleague to her close-knit family and friends. Uzma’s life was tragically taken too soon in a road accident that happened in Nashville, TN on Thursday, January 23rd, 2020.  Her friends. Her co-workers. Her blood relatives. These were her family.  Anyone she met felt better that day or in their life for knowing her. She was an inspiration for many. Her love for the Quran, personal quest to read and understand the Book of Allah urged her to create a website name as Verse by Verse Study Circle and Facebook page. She was also one of the writers of Hiba Magazine and a volunteer worker of the Islamic Society of Nashville, TN.

That's who Sr. Uzma was in life and how she left this world - making sure that people can get benefit from her knowledge and good deeds and she can continue her mission after her death.  Her selflessness was why everyone who knew Uzma loved Uzma.

In honor of her, we have started this campaign as a way for friends and family to celebrate her memory with us by contributing to this effort if they so choose. To those who decide to support this project, as well as to all those who have supported us with their kindness, prayers, and love, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 

Causes

We are looking forward to dividing donations among three causes insha'Allah;

• Building a hand pump water well under her name as Sadaqa Jariya (a charity that persists after death)
• Support to the Orphans, their guardians & Widows
• Support for mobile clinics, donations towards medical treatment, equipment and ambulance 

Where Funds will go?

The funds to build a well will be directed to Hidaya Foundation USA. Medical aid will be dedicated to those in extreme need by donating to Penny Appeal USA, HHRD, Hidaya and the International Rescue Committee. Your donations will help to provide dental hygiene treatments, eye operations, wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, and ambulances. A little can truly go a long way towards healing humanity of its many ailments. 

The Prophet Mohammed (ﷺ) appreciated those who looked after orphans. He mentioned that a person who gives care to an orphan will find a place in paradise (Al-Bukhari). This gave a new meaning to our campaign to care and support Orphans to help in skillful and Islamically educated orphans. The funds will go to Hidaya and are zakat eligible.

May Allah SWT make this project a perpetual charity for the Sr. Uzma and for everyone who donates on her behalf, so that it continues to benefit benefactors after their lifetime. O Allah accept from us all and shower our beloved family with your mercy and grant them paradise Ameen!

Who am I?

 I, Saleha Waqar is a friend of Sr. Uzma and co-admin of Verse by Verse study circle. Sr. Uzma was always helpful in teaching and training me on writing blogs, Islamic articles and due to her efforts, I was able to create another project Alhuda, The Quran Club. I and other friends of Sr. Uzma altogether want to do something special for her and here we are with this campaign. Kindly support us in this task!
