Cambodian Concrete Well Endowment: A Lifeline for the Interior Muslim Community

In the heart of Cambodia's rural interior, the Muslim population faces significant challenges, with one of the most pressing being access to clean water. Our concrete well endowment seeks to extend vital humanitarian aid by providing a sustainable source of clean, safe water to these economically disadvantaged communities. This initiative not only helps meet their immediate water needs but also improves their overall welfare, bringing lasting change to their daily lives. Why We Choose Concrete Wells?

Concrete wells are a more sustainable and long-term solution compared to tube wells, especially in Cambodia's rural areas. While tube wells are cheaper initially, they are prone to contamination, have shorter lifespans, and often require frequent maintenance. In contrast, concrete wells are more durable, providing a consistent, safe water supply for years to come. They are built to withstand harsh weather conditions and are less likely to suffer from contamination, ensuring the water remains clean and safe for the community. By investing in concrete wells, we’re prioritizing the health, safety, and long-term needs of the people we serve.

Our Target

Currently, we are pausing our concrete well efforts due to the rainy season in Cambodia, which affects the stability of the groundwater during digging. We plan to resume by March 2025, once the weather stabilizes. Since 2016, we've successfully built nearly 300 concrete wells across Tboung Khmum and Kampong Cham provinces, providing clean water to thousands of families. When we restart the project, our goal is to construct at least 50 more wells, bringing safe water to even more communities in need.

Our volunteer, Mr. Sleh Hanfey will assist us in locating the suitable location and sourcing the materials and manpower to make it happen.

The cost for each unit is USD550 which can support up to 10 families in the immediate area. Hence the availability of each well is greatly beneficial. In addition to this, the construction also will be done in accordance to the UN's safe water requirement.
