Who we are

Sabeel Muslim Youth & Community Center in Bedford, Nova Scotia provides essential services and resources to Muslim youth, including educational classes, counselling services, and community outreach initiatives. The challenges faced by Muslim youth within the west are imense. From the psychotic and confusing public school system to the bullying and discrimination, Muslim youth have never been exposed to more adversity as they do nowadays. Sabeel's main aims is to create a safe and inclusive environment for these young people to enable them to be in control of their lives, identity, and their futures.

What we do

In a span of a couple of years our center has been able to attract a growing number of the Muslim youth back to the Masjid through the following initiatives:

• Weekly interactive halaqa's accompanied by sports/recreational activity for both boys and girls
• Quran/Arabic Classes for all ages
• Islamic Art Workshops
• Social outreach programs for high school students
• Leading weekly Jumaa prayers in local high schools
• Muslim women empowerment workshops
• Summer and Winter outdoor camping trips for both boys and girls of all ages
• Weekly Judo classes for the youth
• Highschool graduation ceremony for the youth (alternative to prom)
• Weekly lectures at local universities (Dalhousie & Saint Mary's Universities) targeting our university youth

Our Challenges

With the growing list of activities that we provide at Sabeel, our current rental location is no longer sufficient to accommodate the increasing demand of our growing Muslim community. This is why it's important for us to build a youth-centric Muslim Community Center that will be able to house and meet the demands of our youth. Instead of paying rent for a location that can barely accommodate our youth and community, it would be more fruitful and beneficial to have that money invested into a permanent location that is dedicated for our youth and their future.

Our Project

Build a complex for our youth with the following facilities:

• Full-time School
  • As part of our donation campaign, we plan to build a world-class Muslim school that will serve as a hub of learning and spiritual growth for the community. We currently have 240 students registered for our evening Islamic/Quran classes with additional registrations on a waiting list. Our goal is to build a full time school that is safe, welcoming, and nurturing for our students where they can learn and thrive. By donating to our campaign, you will be able to play a crucial role in bringing this vision to life and making a positive impact inshallah.
• Masjid & Library
  • Our mosque and library project is a vital part of our community, offering a place for spiritual growth and learning. Our mosque will provide a peaceful and welcoming space for Muslims to come together and pray, while our library will offer a wide range of books and resources on Islam and other subjects. Our goal is to create a beautiful and functional facility that serves the needs of our community. Not to mention the ongoing deeds that you will be getting even after you leave this life.
• Sports & Community Center
  • As part of our campaign, we are striving to build a world-class sports community center that will serve as a hub of healthy activity and community engagement. Our goal is to create a state-of-the-art facility that will feature a basketball gym, fitness room, indoor soccer field, and swimming pool. These amenities will provide a wide range of options for people of all ages and abilities to stay active and healthy. By donating to our campaign, you can play a crucial role in bringing this vision to life and making a positive impact in your community.

For this campaign we're focusing on collecting enough funds to buy a piece of land where we'll build our project on inshallah. Next phases will have different campaigns inshallah.

Our Goal

Societal changes have also had an impact on the Muslim community, leading to feelings of isolation and marginalization. Sabeel recognizes the importance of community support and provides resources for youth to connect with others who share their experiences. Moreover, the obstacles within their social groups and communities can be a major hurdle for Muslim youth. By supporting the Sabeel Project, you'll be helping to empower these young people to overcome these obstacles and build a better future for themselves and their communities.
