When ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab acquired a piece of land, and asked the Prophet, peace be upon him, how best to use it, the Prophet advised him to establish it as Waqf: “Make the land inalienable (unable to be sold or given away), and give its profit away as charity.”​

Often times we find ourselves trying to find new ways to build our community, to lay a strong foundation for generations to come! Sadly, we often forget to look at the best of examples for the answers we seek. This story reminds us of the true genius of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and his companions! Allah (SWT) said that "They are the best nation that has been raised from Humankind, the enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil and believe in Allah" what truly made them the greatest is their belief in Allah and their actions in following the Sunnah of our Prophet, peace be upon him.

It is to that end the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California (ISCSC), is launching our Building Waqf (endowment) campaign. We are building an avenue of Sadaqa Jariya and creating a lasting foundation for generations to come. 

​A little over two years ago Shura Council had the idea to buy a building. That in and of itself is nothing special as many organizations buy buildings BUT the way we did it and our plan is a bit unique.​The property cost 3 Million Dollars so we got creative. The building itself generates a lot of revenue every month and shura council only occupies a small portion of the building. So we invited organizations and local community members to invest in the building and receive a portion of the profits.​

Alhamdulilah, we put this idea to the community and they LOVED it! Within a month we had all of the investors (including our own money) and purchased the building. Alhamdulilah we have been able to give our investors an annual return of 6% on their investment which pays out monthly.​ While this is truly a historic feat, we are not done yet. The goal we set out to accomplish was making Shura council self-sufficient, how do we do that? By raising funds so we can buy the other investors out and Shura Council can receive the full profit from the building every month. When we do this, Shuras monthly organizational costs will be covered by the building! ​

• By supporting this campaign you will also be supporting the training of future leaders, current leaders, and Imams! 
• Facilitating presentations on Muslims and Islam in public schools/ universities/ interfaith initiatives/ civic settings.
• Bringing our Muslim charitable organizations together to share and learn from one another and fostering collaboration among them to better assist those in need.​
• Supplementing our Islamic school's curriculum with projects such as Invisible Muslims which focuses on historically Black and African stories and contributions on Islam throughout the Quran and Sunna leading all the way until today.
• Bringing Islam to individuals within the criminal justice system as well as working to ensure Muslims within the system have their rights as Muslims protected,  and SO MUCH MORE!​

When you make a donation to our endowment, you give a gift with both immediate and long-term benefits. ​​If you’ve had a family member or dear one pass away and would like to honor their memory, the endowment program can help you do that. You may dedicate a portion of their wealth, or donate on their behalf to the endowment program, and help them be a source of ongoing benefit to others.

​But once this effort is done that is not the end, but just the beginning! We are aiming for this to be the start of a movement! Building the infrastructure of our community. To strengthen our foundation! This will collectively take our community to the next level! So we as a community in the U.S build this one, then move to the next ones.
