In Los Angeles, homelessness is increasing at an alarming rate. Many Muslims are losing their homes due to poverty in the inner city and ending up on the streets with no shelter. Many Muslims coming out of prison also have nowhere to go and end up homeless. To combat this problem and save our brothers and sisters from homelessness, Islah Housing has expanded its capacity. 

Islah LA is a tax-deductible 501c3, and its work has been deemed Zakat eligible for supporting the poor and needy in the Inner City.

Last year, we raised almost $50,000 on Launchgood for our housing program, and have used it to take a major step forward. For the last 5 years, we offered 20 units of supportive housing for those facing homelessness. Alhamdulillah this year, with your help, we acquired another site with an additional 30 beds to give shelter to those in need.

Muslims of all backgrounds have been coming to Islah Housing to save themselves from homelessness. We are currently housing many Muslim refugees who have nowhere else to go, as well as Muslims from the inner city and coming out of prisons who were living on the streets.

In order to provide sustainable housing, we rent the buildings and then rent out the beds at a discounted rate, and for those who cannot afford the lower rate, we try to cover it through our Zakat program or partnerships with other aid programs. Therefore, we lose money on this program in order to keep it affordable for those facing homelessness. For example, in January 2023, our housing expenses were $33,171, while our income was $11,800. Your donations help us cover the difference so that we can continue offering housing to those who would otherwise be homeless.

We need your support to keep sustaining and expanding this desperately needed program. Once someone ends up homeless for a prolonged period of time, it is very rare that they are able to turn their life back around.
