This year, we aim to raise at least $60,000 inshaAllah:
LaunchGood has 0% platform fees (you can make a voluntary tip to the platform if you wish). Credit card processing fees are 2.9% + 30 cents/transaction. Other than this, EVERY CENT you donate will go to workers in need. You can also choose to donate via ApplePay or GooglePay.
All funds raised (whether above or below the target $60,000) will be distributed equally between TWC2 and Migrant Mutual Aid.
In 2019 and 2021, the zakat and other donations you contributed helped TWC2 set up and maintain a Standing Medical Fund. It was our intention that this Fund be replenished annually through #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers’s Ramadan fundraisers.
However, given the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, we pivoted to raising funds for workers in financial distress due to unpaid salaries. In 2022, once again based on feedback from TWC2, we raised funds to replace mobile phones for destitute migrant workers, given how critical mobile phones were for compliance with government COVID-19 measures and for maintaining human connection at a time of heavy movement restrictions.
But the problems that inspired the Standing Medical Fund remain. TWC2 spends tens of thousands of dollars each year helping injured or seriously ill workers get the medical care they need. Painfully, they sometimes have to turn away certain workers whose medical bills are particularly high. The current case of AB highlights these complications:
Without the Standing Medical Fund, TWC2 would ordinarily not be able to support cases like AB’s, with such high medical bills. Your support in the last five years of #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers campaigns has allowed more than 100 injured or ill workers to promptly access medical treatment, where they otherwise would not have been able to do so. Your continued support this Ramadan will allow TWC2 to assist AB in this next stage of treatment, as well as workers like him. The more funds raised, the more workers TWC2 will be able to help.
There are many reasons why workers may be stranded without medical care, despite Singapore law requiring employers to buy insurance for each worker:
Even though some foreign workers may remain in Singapore for over 25 years to work, they are still not entitled to subsidised care granted to citizens or permanent residents. Yet, due to the nature of their work, migrant workers are more likely than Singaporeans to sustain workplace injuries. Additionally, they are at a higher risk of non-work-related illnesses due to their living and working conditions, lack of access to preventative health screening, care, and medication. Your support would enable TWC2 to provide medical care to as many migrant workers as possible.
Migrant Mutual Aid (MMA) was set up in late 2020 – at the height of the COVID-19 crisis – to facilitate the redistribution of resources from Singaporeans to the migrant community. MMA sees migrant workers as an integral part of the Singaporean community, to whom we owe our solidarity rather than charity. In this spirit, MMA serves as a link between migrant workers with specific needs and individuals who wish to extend solidarity by redirecting resources to them. More information on Migrant Mutual Aid's verification, listing, and disbursement procedures can be found on their website.
In the last two Ramadans, the #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers community raised a total of $50,180 to support R, a Bangladeshi worker who was being supported by the Migrant Mutual Aid through his long and painful process of treatment for bone marrow cancer. Sadly, R passed away in June 2022, leaving behind his widow (aged 34) and two young children (aged 3 and 10). The funds raised enabled his family to pay for his treatment including his care in the Intensive Care Unit during his last days, although they still had to incur debt to cover residual medical, funeral and other family costs.
While assisting migrant workers who sustained severe injuries or illnesses and eventually passed away, such as R, Migrant Mutual Aid has also been increasingly called upon to provide support to their widows and families - who have lost their sole or primary breadwinner. Here are some past examples:
Given the increasing volume and complexity of the cases in which Migrant Mutual Aid’s help is sought by migrant workers and their families, Migrant Mutual Aid plans to establish a specialised fund for bereaved Muslim families like S, L and R above (more outstanding examples are below). As a general principle, the Fund will provide disbursements to assist families for a period of six months with their living expenses, as well as funeral costs if needed, in order to give them time to grieve and to establish alternative sources of income to sustain themselves. Other factors may be taken into account on a case-by-case basis: for example, disbursements may also include paying off any outstanding debt incurred to meet earlier needs. No other organisation currently provides this kind of support to the bereaved families of migrant workers.
The fund will continue to support new cases and families as the year progresses, and all disbursements will be listed in Migrant Mutual Aid’s monthly newsletters (which you can see here). As with R’s case, Migrant Mutual Aid will share verification records with #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers and will, following the conclusion of this fundraiser, share documentation verifying receipt of the funds raised in the case of each family that is supported through this Bereaved Families Fund.
The cases supported by Migrant Mutual Aid represent only a small fraction of the migrant fatalities in Singapore. The Migrant Death Map illustrates the scale of these deaths through the years, excluding deaths from ‘natural’ illnesses. The sharp rise in workplace accidents since 2020 has resulted in an increase in the number of families facing not only the grief of bereavement but also financial difficulties following the loss of their primary breadwinner. Your support can provide some relief to as many bereaved families as possible and give them a chance to regain their footing.
#SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers is a movement started in 2018 to promote and operationalise the principle that migrant workers are deserving recipients of zakat and other regular donations from the Muslim community.

2023 Fundraiser Recap - Highest ever raised!
Salaam & peace to all of you,
Thanks to YOU, we raised $87,737 of our $60,000 goal, the highest we’ve ever raised, alhamdulillah 🎉
LaunchGood then added a $5002 bonus as a ‘reward’ for their highest-performing campaigns, taking us to $92,739!
After deducting credit card processing + transfer fees amounting to $3064.96, TWC2 and MMA each received $44,837.
As a reminder, we aimed to raise:
1. At least $30,000 – to replenish TWC2’s Standing Medical Fund, that was first set up in 2019 with #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers donations; and
2. At least $30,000 – to set up a Fund for Bereaved Families on behalf of Migrant Mutual Aid, to provide some financial relief to widows and families left behind when a migrant worker working in Singapore passes away
Thanks to your help (not just in donations but also by sharing about our campaign!), we managed to exceed our targets for these two Funds (Standing Medical Fund + Fund for Bereaved Families), which have since been making disbursements to migrant workers and their families in need.
Stay tuned for details on these disbursements.
We are grateful for your support, and for the support of our partners, TWC2 & MMA, for their critical work!
We could not have done this without you.
