🚨 URGENT APPEAL: Help Us Expand Shrewsbury Masjid 🚨

Dear brothers and sisters,
Alhamdulillah, with the help of Allah and your incredible generosity, Shrewsbury Muslim Centre has become a vital hub for worship, learning, and community support in Shropshire. It is the only masjid in the area, serving as the heart of Islam for our community. For many years, we prayed Taraweeh in a disused post office, an empty house, and even a spare room at the hospital. Jumu'ah was performed on a badminton court in a local church. After decades, with the Mercy and Bounty of Allah, we finally established our first designated House of Allah. For almost 10 years, our community has grown, and now the time has come to expand our masjid to meet its increasing needs and better serve our growing community.

عن عثمان بن عفّان قال قال رسول الله ﷺ من بنى مسجدا لله بنى الله له في الجنّة مثله (متفق عليه)

Uthman bin Affan reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

In addition to our regular prayers and worship services, we are actively involved in various community initiatives:

• School & Community Engagement: regularly hosting visits from school and community groups and actively engaging with local schools and organisations through outreach programs.
• Educational Programs: We run a small madrasa where children and adults alike learn the Quran and Islamic knowledge.
• Sisters' Events: We hold regular events for sisters to come together, learn, and grow in faith.
• Support for Converts: We provide guidance, support, and a welcoming community for new Muslims embracing the beautiful way of Islam.
• Charity Work: Over the years, our masjid has raised thousands for charity, helping those in need locally and globally.

Why Do We Need This Extension?

📌 Overcrowding: Our masjid is overflowing. Brothers pray in the entrance whilst Sisters are unable to be accommodated for during Jumu'ah prayers due to limited space. During Taraweeh and Events, the space gets hot and crowded. To accommodate our growing congregation, we hold two Jumu'ah prayers each week.

📌 Growing Community Needs: More children study the Quran and Arabic here each year. We also provide Tajweed lessons, Islamic education, and youth programs. We need more space and better facilities to nurture the next generation and provide a welcoming environment for learning and worship. Sisters currently do not have sufficient space to pray and attend programs, and we must address this urgently.

📌 Lack of Body Washing Facilities: Currently, we do not have proper ghusl (body washing) facilities for our deceased, which causes distress and difficulty for families in their time of need. This extension will allow us to provide dignified funeral preparations in accordance with Islamic tradition.

📌 More Services: Our masjid is a place of worship, but also a centre for Nikah services, interfaith engagement, and community support. With a larger space, we can serve more people, host more events, and provide better facilities for all.

📌 Future-Proofing Our Masjid: This expansion is not just for today but for generations to come. A place where:
✅ More people can worship Allah in comfort.
✅ The Quran will be memorised and taught.
✅ New Muslims will embrace Islam in a welcoming environment.
✅ Educational & social programs will benefit the entire community.

What Will the Extension Include?

🚪 New men's entrance – Providing a more accessible and organized entry.

🕌 Ladies' prayer room – A dedicated space for sisters to worship in comfort.

🛁 Body washing facilities – A vital addition for proper Islamic funeral rites as currently there are no facilities for Muslims locally.

🚰 Improved wudhu areas with new wudhu facilities for sisters, as well as new toilets – Enhancing cleanliness and convenience for all worshippers.

A Breakdown Of Our Costs

We have already started the works Alhamdulillah but need your support and donations to see it to the end In Sha' Allah!

Our remaining costs total to £90,000

• £50,000 Qard Hasan has been raised for the Extension Project, which the Masjid currently owes.
• £40,000 which is required to complete the Extension Project.

The Masjid also has other financial burdens currently which require solving and would appreciate help with this. We have decided to keep this fundraiser purely for the Extension Project of the Masjid.

Allah says in the Quran:
“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills.” (Al-Baqarah 2:261)
