Pay your Fidyah and Kaffarah with SKT

Ramadan is here which means millions of us brothers and sisters worldwide will be fasting however, amongst us there are those who are either unable to fast due to certain reasons or those who may intentionally end up breaking their fasts through their action or behaviour, the former Fidyah and latter Kaffarah. As a Muslim fasting is an obligatory requirement regardless of who you are, and so if you are unable to fast in the holy month of Ramadan, unable to later make up your fasts or deliberately miss/break your fasts you are required to give Fidyah or Kaffarah; the differences and who is eligible to pay either are outlined below.

What is Fidyah and who has to pay it?

Fidyah is the obligatory payment which must be made if a person is forced to break or miss fasts and cannot make these fasts up at a later date for a just and valid reason.

To calculate your Fidyah, you will need to pay £4 for every day that a fast will be missed. If you cannot fast throughout Ramadan, your Fidyah will be £120 - this will provide nutritious meals for vulnerable people for an entire month, Alhamdulillah!

Who is eligible to pay Fidyah?

• People with chronic illnesses including mental illness
• People with short-term illness during Ramadan
• People requiring continued medication throughout Ramadan
• Sisters who are Pregnant during Ramadan
• Sisters who are menstruating during Ramadan
• Elderly people who are unable to fast

What is Kaffarah and who has to pay it?

Kaffarah is the obligatory payment which must be made if a person breaks or misses fasts and cannot be made up within 60 continuous days.

According to the Quran, you need to provide 60 meals, to atone for your broken fast. Donate your Kaffarah with us, and you will pay £4 a day for two meals over a period of one month, costing £240 in total.

Note: for broken fasts, you must pay Kaffarah AND make up the missed or broken fasts

Who is eligible to pay Kaffarah?

• Intentionally eating food or drinking water
• Intentionally making yourself throw up
• Planning or intending to miss fasts
• Deliberately harming yourself, others, or animals
