Somaliland is currently going through one of the worst droughts ever, with both children and livestock dying from a lack of clean water. We need to act NOW to help our brothers and sisters. In collaboration with registered charity Mercy-USA for Aid and Development, MOTW registered charity is on the ground to help raise awareness and support for Mercy-USA’s efforts to provide clean water to families in need. Climate change has increased the severity of droughts and floods plaguing this once fertile land. Pollution created by others far away has wreaked havoc on the traditional pastoral lifestyle of the Somali people. The lack of safe access to clean water negatively impacts the community as a whole, but especially women and girls, as the chore of fetching water falls on them in this traditional society.

When a family lacks clean water: 

• Children get sick and die from contaminated water or have stunted growth and other complications from malnutrition.
• Girls end up spending half the day to fetch water and miss out on school.
• Families are forced to pay for water from their meager income meant for food.
