Today, 02 September 2021, Sonia’s soul finally returned to Allah, Glory be to Him. Please make dua Allah forgives all her sins, protects her from the punishments of the grave, shades her on the Day of Judgement and grants her a place in Jannah al Firdous A’la. She leaves behind 3 beautiful children Zakariya (8), Hannah (7) and Ayoub (2). Sonia died between 6-7am today as her family witnessed her praying Fajr salah just before she closed her eyes to sleep Alhamdulillah.

Sonia leaves behind three children who will find the loss of their beloved mother very difficult. They’ve endured a traumatic experience and seen their lives hugely disrupted as they watched their mother suffer in pain and agony, missed their mothers’ usual level of love and and company as she was unable to do much with them. This page is to ensure that Sonia's legacy continues by supporting her children's future and building legacy projects in her name. Thank you to everyone for your goodwill, prayers and compassion.

Sonia’s Legacy

Sonia, born into a Sikh family came to the UK when she was in her teens to get married and had 3 young children, before one day the light of Islam entered her heart almost 20 years ago. With almost no blood relations in the UK she was forced to make one of the most difficult decisions any woman could face. Remain a Sikh and keep your children and stay in the family you married into or lose everything if you become a Muslim. Allah gave her incredible strength and she chose Islam at the sacrifice of everything else, her home, her family, her children and much more. Sonia later remarried another Sikh revert, Aman and Allah blessed her to live with him in Makkah for 10 years, she always prayed just to visit but Allah gave her residency. For the huge sacrifice of her children Allah blessed her with 3 more beautiful children who she raised as righteous devout Muslims; Zakariya (8), Hannah (7) and Ayoub (2). In a beautiful ending Sonia's relationship with her previous children was also restored once the news of her Cancer reached them. She was also a huge pillar in supporting her husband’s role as the Managing Director of Islam21c.com.

Her Struggle

2 years ago, the doctors diagnosed Sonia with Renal Cell Cancer in her Kidney which they removed. 3 months later it returned this time to multiple sites in her bones and as time went by it spread to more bones, multiple lymph nodes, liver, brain, bowel an died this morning in hospital. She lived through extreme pain for 18 months with 4 hospital admissions in 2021 alone, her current one lasting 8 weeks. She slowly become immobile and bed bound in the last months of her life. This all had a huge impact on this small revert family as day to day life become extremely difficult. Although neither husband or wife had any Muslim family the Muslim community came and stood by their side for the entire period and become their pillar of support and comfort helping in so many different ways it was almost unbelievable. For e.g. They rarely cooked a meal for over a year as a growing number of sisters, who they’d never met, started sending food every other day, week in week out as Sonia became unable to cook. Families started taking the children for days out and sleep overs to try restoring some normality in their lives and so many more beautiful examples. The family offer their deep deep thanks and gratitude for every single deed, dua, message, call everything that was done by everyone who reached out to show they are not alone. Jazak Allahu Khairan they never felt alone because of you.

Dua for deceased Sister
‘O Allah, forgive and have mercy upon her, excuse her and pardon her, and make honourable her reception. Expand her entry, and cleanse her with water, snow, and ice, and purify her of sin as a white robe is purified of filth. Exchange her home for a better home, and her family for a better family, and her spouse for a better spouse. Admit her into the Garden, protect her from the punishment of the grave and the torment of the Fire'

Two months since Sonias death

al-Salām ’alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuh

It’s been exactly 2 months today since my wife Sonia Panesar returned to Allah rahimahAllah. SubhanAllah it feels like the longest 2 months of our lives. Today I prayed dhur and Janaza prayer back at East London mosque, the same mosque I prayed Jummah and Sonias Janaza exactly two months ago. Please remember her in your dua and ask Allah for all the best things you can think of for her (and us). SubhanAllah since her death several people shared amazing dreams they had of her. Coupled with the inspirational response we saw from the community gave us even more conviction in our hope that Allah has given her a great reward in her grave and has a greater reward awaiting her in the hereafter InshaAllah.

Please also remember the children in your dua, they have been so inspiringly strong with the huge loss they’ve had to face. It goes without saying they deeply deeply miss their mum and remember her all the time. Despite the last two months being so difficult, with time and dua things have settled alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah the kids had a busy half term full of fun trips/ activities and I recently went back to work at Islam21c.

I can’t express this enough but a huge heart felt Jazak’Allaahu khairan for all the help, messages, calls, dua, sadaqah given to her page and all the other things I’ve not mentioned. We/I couldnt never have got through this trial without it.

In case you missed it Here’s the video of her janaza if you didn’t get to watch it https://youtu.be/D8UTVXH7Sjk

May Allah bless you and grant you the highest rank in jannah alongside our beloved prophet SAW.
