How OBAT is helping students change their lives?

OBAT’s scholarship student, Yeasmin, continued to strive for her dream even when the odds were stacked against her. With her admission into medical school, today she is all set to realize it!

Yeasmin was the first OBAT student from Rangpur School to receive an A+ grade in the elementary school board exam in 2012. This outcome would have been impossible had Yeasmin not been able to salvage her admission card for the board exam when her home went up in flames earlier that year. Yeasmin did not try to save any of her sparse belongings from the fire- her admission card was the only thing she clutched in her hand as she ran out from her burning home.

An A+ grade is also known as a “Golden GPA” in Bangladesh. Yeasmin made sure that she put in all the hard work that was needed to ensure a glistening future. With the help of a scholarship from OBAT, she continued to excel year after year as she progressed through her education. With her acceptance at Prime Medical College and Hospital in late 2022, Yeasmin is now poised to become a future Medical Doctor!

While Yeasmin’s story is truly inspirational, there are countless more stories that OBAT's supporters have helped us write year after year. 

Currently, over 11,000 students are receiving an education thanks to over 82 educational programs of OBAT. Among them, over 2,000 students are pursuing an education in engineering, medicine, business etc. with the help of scholarships from OBAT.

OBAT grants scholarships to the neediest students who live in makeshift and ramshackle slum like camps. Their lives are stamped with severe poverty and lack of basic amenities of living. Without access to the opportunities that OBAT provides, they will also grow up to become day laborers or factory workers like their parents who are supporting their families  on their dollar a day income.

Unlike their parents, OBAT's scholarship students can actually dream about breaking their poverty cycle and transforming their futures!

Every year, hundreds of scholarship applications are received, but many of them have to be denied due to lack of funds. However, the children living in refugee camps are diamonds in the rough, and it is people like YOU who can help give them their sparkle and brilliance.
