Bring Ramadan to Foster & Refugee Homes!

In the spirit of this holy month, the Michigan Muslim Community Council and Muslim Foster Care Association is organizing gift packages to local Muslim foster and local refugee children. We believe these children deserve to experience the priceless moments of joy that come during Ramadan. What seems like the smallest gesture by us, can mean the whole world to a child.

Many of these "mis-placed" children have been placed in non-Muslim homes and centers. Due to these placements we have heard many different stories from our foster care children. One being, a Muslim foster teen stated that she used to put a t-shirt on her head for prayer to keep up with her faith. Countless others stated that they have been unable to eat parts of their meals because they contain pork. Even some, particularly younger children, do not even remember what Islamic holidays are or when they are occur. 

Fostering Love to Children in Foster Care

No child should be left without loved ones. Our aim is to remind the children  that they are not forgotten. There are people standing behind them, extending their love, prayers, support, and help whenever and wherever it is needed. 

In our community alone, there are 75 Muslim children in the foster care system, along with refugee children, bringing the number to over 100 children. The majority of the children are placed in a non- Muslim homes and/or centers.

YOU can make a difference by joining this effort! MMCC has partnered with the Department of Health & Human Services over the past 4 years to identify and help support Muslim children in foster care.  We know that there is a severe shortage of licensed Muslim foster homes. By providing these gift packages, you are able to show these kids that they are not alone. We want them to know they have their Muslim brothers and sisters looking out for their needs. That at the end of the day, they have someone to call family. #fosteringlove

The Plan 

WHAT WE DO: We first ask every each child what they want for Ramadan and Eid by working with the social workers. The social workers report back to us with their needs and wants are.

WHAT YOU DO: Our donors and community members are the most important piece after the children. We ask that you 1) donate and 2) spread the word. All proceeds donated go into creating individualized gift baskets for the children.

THE BASKETS: $100 =1 basket for 1 child.

This money covers the cost of clothing, shoes, books, toys, and a personal element relating to the child's interest. We also provide prayer beads, Quran's, and hijabs on request.
