The Orphan Crisis in Palestine: 

Since Oct 7, 2023, more than 30,000 innocent civilians have been killed, of which more than 15,000 are infants and children. The orphaned children in Gaza are the most vulnerable to exploitation, violence, and deep psychological trauma. Many have lost both parents or their entire families. Your generous donations will prioritize the lives and needs of these orphans, providing immediate relief. At this very moment, thousands of young lives hang in peril as we race against the clock to provide urgent life-saving support. We are running out of time but there’s still hope. We are supporting the children of Gaza by providing access to life-saving aid in the form of food, water, warm blankets, sleeping bags, medical kits, hygiene kits and more. Q. Who is Penny Appeal Canada working with on the Ground?

Penny Appeal Canada is taking an integrated approach by working directly with trusted local organizations,  who are registered UN partners. Supplies and services will be secured through these organizations and local suppliers. We work with partner organizations who have undergone a rigorous screening process to ensure they comply with the requirements set out by the Canadian Government, as well as with Penny Appeal Canada programmatic and reporting requirements.

All proceeds gathered will be allocated to benefit the OrphanKind program in Palestine.

Q. How is the assistance reaching Palestinians given the blockades and restrictions on flow of goods in and out of Gaza?

Since the organizations we work with are based in Gaza and registered with the UN and other international agencies, they have access to the warehouses that stock relief items. Additionally, the staff and community members are invested in ensuring the relief items reach those in most need. 

Distributions of the necessities take place in temporary shelters, hospitals and where most needed across the city. We also request proof of the distribution through photos and videos wherever possible.

Here's how Penny Appeal Canada is securing aid into Gaza: 

• Step 1: Supplies are procured and delivered into Penny Appeal's warehouse in Cairo where we pack all the boxes that will be delivered.
• Step 2: Packed supplies from the Penny Appeal warehouse go to the Egyptian Red Crescent warehouse where they will undergo an inspection to ensure all supplies that are declared to be delivered are packed and loaded.
• Step 3: Trucks are then sent to an IDF checkpoint next to Rafah crossing, where the supplies will undergo a secondary inspection.
• Step 4: Once the supplies pass the secondary inspection, they are then put into a queue to enter Gaza through Rafah.
• Step 5: Once inside Gaza, Palestinian Red Crescent takes over and then distributes the supplies via our team on the ground in Gaza.

Q. Zakat, Sadaqah, or Lillah?

The main difference between Zakat and Sadaqah is that Zakat is an obligatory charity, while Sadaqah are a voluntary one. Lillah is a type of Sadaqah donation. Generally, Sadaqah is intended for an individual or persons in need, where as Lillah is for an institution (masjid, trucks, etc..). All are important, and we are encouraged to give generously to those in need. When you donate, make your intention for either Zakat, Sadaqah or Lillah. In all cases, 100% of the donations collected here will go towards the Palestinian Orphans. Our Sharia Council has confirmed this project as Zakat eligible.
