Lead by faith not by fear. "The best of you are those that are of benefit to others" (Bukhari)

Achieve Taqwa this Ramadan: Reviving Divine Justice!

Allah tells us exactly why we are fasting on this blessed month:

“O you who have believed, fasting has been prescribed upon as it was prescribed upon those before you so that you may achieve taqwa”

[Surah Al Baqarah 2:183]

There is one AMAZING deed which Allah speaks about in the Qur’an and which takes us closer to taqwa - the very aim of Ramadan -  establishing JUSTICE.

Establish justice, that is closer to Taqwa and fear Allah, indeed Allah is all aware of what you do” [Surah Ma’idah 5:8]

The Ummah is in dire need for justice and courage to achieve it.

This is where YOU can make a difference.

CAGE exists to establish this ibaadah by being a voice for the voiceless, by supporting, and serving 100’s of people each year around the globe, so that they can be given justice.

What an amazing deed it is to support this mission in the most blessed month!

Here are 3 of the many ways CAGE works to revive divine justice:

✅ THE BEST JIHAD: SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“The Best type of Jihad is speaking a word of truth in the presence of a tyrant ruler” (Ibn Majah)

✅ FREE THE PRISONER

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Feed the hungry, visit the sick, and free the prisoners" (Bukhari)

✅ PROTECT THE DAWAH

The Prophet said, “Whoever guides someone to goodness will have a similar reward.” (Muslim)

Lets make this Ramadan, a Ramadan of Taqwa! Support CAGE and revive divine justice.

Shaykh Dr Haitham al Haddad: “It might be better than supporting 10 da’is or scholars because they cannot do their job properly without an organisation that protects Islam and Muslims... Supporting CAGE is actually supporting many dawah activities and dawah organisations.”

Maryam (raided in her birthroom): “CAGE is like Al Mu’tasim for me. They hear the cry of injustice and they respond. I ask everyone to donate to CAGE whatever you can; because they stood by me when no one did”

Ali Al-Marri (Torture survivor): “I encourage you very highly to support our brothers at CAGE whom have supported me, and without Allah’s support, then theirs, I would have never been able to try and get my Justice from the ones who tortured me.”

What we’re about: Fighting for Justice

CAGE opened its doors to the community during Ramadan of 2013 as a grassroots organisation defending the rights of prisoners at the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison and all the other prisoners held in so-called “black sites” and other prisons as part of the ‘War on Terror’.

As the War on Terror expanded and moved from wars abroad to unjust policies at home, we at CAGE adapted to the new challenges facing our communities.

Through our work, CAGE has developed extensive networks with former prisoners, their families, lawyers, activists and the media. Our strengths and experience makes us unique in the way we operate.

How we do it: Defending rights, empowering communities, Being a Voice for the Voiceless.

We:

  • work closely with survivors of abuse and torture across the globe, supporting them to access their rights.
  • carry out cutting edge research, documenting the abuse of due process and the erosion of the rule of law.
  • provide a voice for survivors of miscarriages of justice, challenging the dominant narrative of suspect communities.
  • empower communities by educating them about unjust state policies, providing information on their rights and empowering them to stand up against inequality.

What your money contributes to:

1) Research: Our investigations are based on primary source data from hundreds of clients and includes.

  • Research investigations in the field.
  • Cutting edge reports and publications.
  • Professional production, publication and dissemination of reports.

Our researchers investigate clients cases and document abuses of law around the world to produce cutting edge reports and publications, holding torturers and abusers of the rule of law to account. Our research is extensive and ground-breaking. It has resulted in our work being continually referenced as evidence by academics, journalists, human rights organisations and lawyers. We are regularly invited to contribute to intellectual debates and discussions at global conferences, parliamentary meetings and Universities.

Our latest report was Torture in America which highlighted the story of an inspirational survivor who withstood years of abuse at the hands of the FBI in the USA. The story was featured in the leading newspapers and publications in the UK, Germany, Netherlands and Turkey and lead to a phenomenal community response with thousands people signing a petition to demand the arrest of his abusers. At the heart of the report was the survivor’s story - This is how our cutting edge research helps survivors own their own narrative, and use their story to change perceptions and pursue justice.

2) Community projects:

We have invested heavily this year in work to help us invest into the community via educational and empowering outreach programs.

  • Know your rights workshops.
  • National and international campaigns.
  • Providing educational material and content.
  • Delivering lectures and public events.

CAGE are more than an organisation. We are a grassroots movement that has worked to empower communities through multiple awareness campaigns, lectures, workshops and public events, with the aim of seeking justice and changing attitudes in the process. These events are a crucial way to educate the public on significant issues related to them, and mobilise communities to campaign against injustice, in so doing empowering them to stand up for their rights.

Our last national tour spanned 7 cities in 6 days and over 1000 people attended. This year we are running a book tour publicising a book authored by CAGE Research Director, Asim Qureshi. The book, A Virtue of Disobedience, is a handbook directing readers on how to attain justice through practising faith.

3) Supporting survivors:

Our survivors are the most important stakeholders in what we do and this year we are building the foundations to help us expand and reach deeper into the community to help reach more survivors. To compliment this we must also invest heavily in an efficient casework service which comprises:

  • Access to our dedicated client helpline.
  • Advice and information on legal representation and financial aid.
  • Emotional and psychological support.

Casework is at the heart of our work at CAGE. It informs our research, guides our decision making and connects us with the community. We ensure that all cases are documented thoroughly, which is essential for providing evidence should there be legal proceedings.

Often there is a need to campaign for and highlight a client’s case and in these cases we deal with each case uniquely, doing what is in the client’s best interest. Our latest most high profile campaign for a survivor is that of Ali Al-Marri who suffered 13 years of abuse at the hands of US federal agents.

4) Reaching out to new audiences:

  • Produce high quality graphic design and video production.
  • Maintain and grow our website and online products.
  • Invest in the latest technologies to generate the greatest impact.
