The Horaya Academy is located in Bakau Newtown Gambia. It was developed to provide educational access to those who need it most. Horaya Acadamy strives to create a community diverse in age, ability, talent, and resources committed to learning. We are focused on delivering the intellectual, social, religious and spiritual maturation of all connected to this endeavor in order for these students to access the freedom Allah (swt) has given them as their birthright.

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him”. (Muslim)

Our Mission

Our school is based upon the idea of educating and developing the whole student. To achieve this mission we providing a well rounded curriculum that focuses on the inner and outer dimensions of each learner. Respecting the natural disposition of students, teachers are trained to effectively integrate diverse knowledge. Staff work together to identify, nurture and build on students' unique talents and interests while gently guiding them to a path of inner and outer success.

Yan Taro Project 

The Yan Taro Project, a registered non-profit in the US, follows in the legacy of Nana Asma'u by providing education, water and wellness to those in need. YTP has three areas of focus to provide a higher quality of life for the communities we serve starting with Horaya Academy. Our previous campaign raised more than $100K.
