Masjid Indonesia Kurashiki (MIK)

The mosque was initiated by the Indonesian Muslim community living in the Okayama area, Japan. In the Okayama Region, Japan, from population data for 2022, the Indonesian population is estimated at around 1400 people. The population of Muslims from other ethic groups are also increasing in Okayama and Japan as a whole, creating the need to have a sufficient mosque for the Islamic activities.

The project has actually been in plan since 2009. Thanks to Allah SWT, we managed to turn it into reality on March 18, 2022. We bought an old building that used to operate as a shop selling ocha (Japanese tea). The building has not been inhabited for 15 years and it was purchased for 5,400,000 yen (about 40,000 US dollars). The Masjid Indonesia Kurashiki Foundation has also been registered to the Japanese government and are now allowed to carry out activities related to religious & social welfare in Okayama, Japan. Accordingly, the foundation is managed by the existing Okayama Indonesian Muslim community.

However, currently the masjid is yet to operate in its full capacity due to the condition of the building. As the building is rather old and have been left abandoned for more than a decade, a major renovation is needed to improve the building and make it a proper Masjid for the community. Having discussed with constructors, the renovation is estimated to cost 10,000,000 yen (75,000 US Dollars). 

It is hoped that we can make it happen by 2023. For that, we kindly asks for your support to make the project successful!

Some of our goals ahead for the masjid is as follows:

• Renovation of the Kurashiki Indonesia Mosque Building, so that it can be realized as an active Islamic center in the Okayama area.
• Accommodate a full time Ustadz & Ustadzah to become the Imam and supervisors of the religious education program
• Accommodate Public Worship (Congregational Prayers, Friday Prayers, Eid Prayers, Dhikr, Itikaf, Sahur & Iftar Together, etc.)
• Marriage procedure
• Jenazah procedure
• Halal Restaurant

Currently, some of the programs that is taking place regularly are as follows:

• Regular Islamic lectures
• Regular Quran Recitations for Muslimah
• Tahsin & Tahfidz Quran Class
• Halal groceries
• Sport activities
