السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

قال الله تعالى

“The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah, for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided”

 Sūrat uttawbah (The Repentance) 9:18

Campaign Objective

In north Osaka, Japan, where around 400 Muslims live and tens of Japanese revert to Islam every year, our current Masjid (wooden house) has become old and not large enough. We need to raise $220,000 as the first step to start constructing the first full-scale Masjid ever in north Osaka.

Why should you contribute to this campaign?

Because your donation will be invested in an Islamic project that aims at:
1. Providing a prayer space for the growing number of Muslims.
2. Establishing an Islamic environment for the new Japanese Muslims.
3. Creating better Islamic facilities for the new generations (kids).
4. Increasing activities for interacting with Japanese non-Muslim society

The current building

The current building of the Masjid was purchased in 2006. It is a small family (5-6 persons). It is a wooden building with two stories. The first floor (74.52m2) is used as the male prayer room as well as storage for halal food. The second floor (59.62m2) consists of female prayer rooms (two rooms), children’s room, and a meeting room. There are no separate entrances for males and females, which may make sisters uncomfortable when they enter the Masjid. In addition to the main building, there is a small Wudu place (7.3m2) for males.

Images of the current crowd situation

Friday prayer
Weekly Saturday evening gathering

Taraweeh prayer

Now the place is not enough to accommodate the increasing number of believers. Even for Friday prayer, sometimes the brothers have to pray outside the main building. The situation becomes even harder if there is rain or storm (the norm in Japan).

Masjid activities

  • Declaring Shahada
Our Masjid receives Japanese (males and females) who come to the Masjid to talk Shahada and accept Islam. According to the Imam,  he has “witnessed around 600 Japanese citizens converting to Islam” (Japan Times, Nov 2014, The Osaka imam who represents Islam’s growth in Japan) Some of the converts engage in Islamic practice so actively that they become directors of this Masjid.

  • Daily Prayers and Jumu'ah prayer
The daily prayers as well as the Jumu'ah prayer are held. When a Friday coincides with a national holiday, more people gather at the Masjid than the building can hold so some brothers have to pray outside in the parking lot.

  • Saturday Program

Every Saturday, multiple Islamic knowledge related lectures are delivered; such as Qur’an, Tajweed, Hadith, Seerah, Fiqh, and etc. There is also a class for kids.

After the lectures and Isha prayer, dinner is prepared and provided to everyone at the Masjid. The dinner can't be prepared at the mosque which makes it hard for the brothers who made it. We are willing also to have a kitchen in our new building.

  • During Ramadan
Iftar is provided at the Masjid. Nearly 100 people from diverse countries gather to share happiness and celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan. We use the same room as praying for iftar.

  • Eid al-fitr and Eid al-adha
For the eid prayers, there gather more than 250 people from the Osaka and Kansai area. Since the Masjid is too small for this big number of brothers/sisters, we rent a nearby facility the eid prayers. After finishing the prayer, we gather in the Masjid to have a social gathering to encourage communication within our Muslim community and allow children to make friends together.

  • Welcoming the Japanese as well as international visits

The Masjid welcomes individual or group visits from Non-Muslim Japanese people who often join the Saturday program. They enjoy the lectures by the imam and the exchanges with the brothers. The masjid has become one of the proofs which show the cohabitation of people from different backgrounds in this area.

The Expansion Project (Please donate to share in the reward of all the activities)

Looking at the dire need of the hour, the Masjid committee is expanding the current building. The already available land, which is used for parking is the place under consideration for a new building.

We divided our campaign goal into two sub-goals in terms of two phases campaign.

The first phase (Roughly): build the foundation of the Masjid on the attached land with ultimate goal = $400,000USD (rough estimate).

The second phase (Roughly): renovate the old Masjid building (Wooden-house) with a goal =$200,000USD (rough estimate) and afterward merge it with the newly founded building resulting from the first phase.

This proposal for raising a campaign aiming at achieving the first sub-goal of the first phase (220,000USD).

The new building should be able to accommodate more than 250 people. At the same time, it is necessary to secure space for the parking lot. Based on these requirements, we are aiming at building a 2-story reinforced concrete building. The draft summary of the expected building design is the following.

  •  The building area is 16m X 12m.

  • The 1st  floor is a men’s prayer room. It may also contain a wudu room, meeting room, Halal food shop, and teaching classes.

  • The 2nd floor is a women’s prayer room accompanied by their wudu place. In addition, the children’s room will be placed on this floor.

Osaka Ibaraki Masjid

Dear Br. / Sis. ... Assalam Alaikum

By the help & grace of Allah swt and your generous donations we are inching closer every day to realize our dream project by building the first full-scale masjid in North Osaka, Japan. Thank you very much for your generosity! May Allah swt award you more and more.

We would happily like to update you with the following:

Alhamdulillah, we have negotiated with three different construction companies (big and small, global & local) to get the best quotation. The construction companies have given us estimation and are ready to start the work. The work could be finished within five months. They all expect payment to be done at three stages all within the same period.

We are working on reaching the target of estimated budget (Current campaign). That is why we ask you to continuously support us and share our campaign with your relatives, friends and others who may be willing to support in such a great regard during the month of Dhulhajjah. In Sha Allah, you will also get the same reward by just spreading the message.

We again would like to thank. May Allah bless you all and multiply your good works. Jazakallah khairan Wa’Assalam
