The second orphanage, called Al Walidayn Centre located in Kwale County, is a community development initiative that hosts a child rescue centre, girls and boys orphanage, a school, Islamic madrasa, and a hospital. Al Walidayn is not only a physical refuge for the community, but the team has created a family connection with each child who comes through its doors. While they have the physical infrastructure of a library located within their school facility, literacy resources are costly. With a current project in the works to build a fully functioning library, we hope to purchase books, furniture, shelving, paint, and other resources so that the children have a welcoming and inviting space to expand their minds and delve into the wonderful world of literacy and reading.
