Join Us To Support Orphans in Lebanon

AssalamuAlaikaum, I am Maryam Wardaa. I have the pleasure of travelling to Lebanon with Human Concern International to look after and care for orphan children and their needs. I will be able to visit Syrian, Palestinian, and Lebanese camps & Orphan families. Orphans are very dear to my heart. Orphans are disadvantaged in many ways, exposing them to abuse, exploitation, violence, poverty, and more. It is our duty to look after and care for these children. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to illustrate. Join us this Winter in ensuring that orphans are provided with the same love and care, and opportunity that we want for our very own children.

The Situation in Lebanon

More than 70% of the families in Lebanon’s camps live below the poverty line, and over 50% of those are below the age of 18, which means that millions of children are growing up knowing nothing but conflict, hardship, and poverty.

Additionally, Lebanon hosts one of the largest populations of Palestinian refugees, with over 1.5 million people housed in precarious living arrangements with no heating, electricity, or running water.

22% of Lebanese Households are Food Insecure

Lebanon is experiencing a profound economic crisis. The World Bank has called the situation in Lebanon one of the top 10 most severe crises globally since the 19th century.

The social impact of the crisis has been dire for all population groups in Lebanon: the local population and Palestinian refugees.

Food security has become a significant concern with the constant increase in food prices. Most Lebanese families and the entire refugee population are worried about having enough food to eat.

Child Sponsorship and Orphan Care

The recipe for a child’s happiness?

Play time, friends, home, and school.

Without the warm comforts of a home and without school where a child learns and plays, half a child’s happiness is erased.

There are millions of children around the world who’ve stepped up to become a father or mother to their siblings, the primary caregiver, or the breadwinner way before their time.

Human Concern International's Child Sponsorship Program is here to provide the necessary support to children who have fallen victim to the misfortunes of life so that children can be children until they’re ready for more.

Zero Hunger Program: Money for the Grocery Store

In Lebanon, HCI provides refugees and families in need with pre-paid credit cards to access grocery stores. Granting families access to grocery stores provides a more dignified means of satisfying their family's food needs.

Plus, each family has different needs. Some require diapers and baby formula, while others have no such needs and require other supplies more fitting for their family size and age group.

Your donations are used to stock up on food supplies for families in need.

Zero Hunger Program: Food Baskets

In addition to HCI's grocery store stipend program, your donations help fund food basket distribution programs. Families receive food baskets monthly with essential food supplies. Here's what's included in one of our kits.

Clean Water: Sanitation, Good Hygiene, Health, Education, and Economy

One of the core needs of every community is access to clean water.

In Lebanon, HCI builds water filtration systems to support thousands of households.

This year, the cost of water surged amidst inflationary pressures and high demand. Families are traveling long distances to find clean water for their families.

Help build water filtration systems in every neighborhood so families can at least have the comfort of clean water right outside their doorsteps.

Assisting The Elderly, The Orphan, and the Widow

For years, Human Concern International has supported those in need and the most vulnerable in Lebanon. Among them are the elderly who have no one to take care of them. Oftentimes, the families of the elderly are unable to care for them due to a lack of resources. So, they're left in care homes where we support them and provide them comfort.

The orphan's challenges in Lebanon are compounded by the economic crisis the country faces. The cost of living is climbing at an astonishing rate, and opportunities are scarce and few. The goal is to take orphans off the street and provide them a place to live with access to food, water, and education. For most youth in Lebanon, a path to university in Europe or North America is the only way out.

Widows, some of them with children, feel the weight of the world on their shoulders. Not only do they have to care for themselves, but also for their children. How will a widow earn an income in a country facing a severe economic crisis? Who will she leave her children with while she goes out to work? How can she afford rent and food? Who of her children will be sent to school? HCI supports widows to ensure that they do not fall victim to exploitation and that their children have a fair chance at building a hopeful future.

Your support means that we can look after these highly vulnerable groups and provide them the support they need to lead and live a dignified life.

What Does Your Donation Mean?

Your donation means that a refugee child from Syria or Uyghur community will be saved from the clutches of violence, labor, abuse, and exploitation.

Rather than collecting roadside garbage to be paid pennies for the pound, a child will attend schooling to advance their chances for a better future.

A child’s basic needs will be provided for such as food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare

Education

Education is at the corner stone of all HCI programs. It is the key to eradicating poverty and seeking livelihood. Every child sponsored is enrolled in school and provided everything they need to realize their potential. Every sponsored child has high aspirations - we're here to remove roadblocks and ensure that every child has a chance at a better life.

Continue your support today by sponsoring an orphan child, and let children be children!
