Who are We?

2016 was a tough year for many people around the globe. We all know that MILLIONS have been displaced from their homes and have lost far more than what we can imagine. Philadelphia has welcomed more than 1000 refugees up until January of 2017, where the refugee influx has decreased significantly. The PA Refugee Task Force, a collaboration between the Muslim Youth Center of Philadelphia (MYCP; http://www.mycphiladelphia.com) and ICNA Relief PA (https://www.icnarelief.org), came together during the climax of refugee resettlement in Philadelphia last summer. Since then, we have directly serviced more than 50 refugee families (Syrian, Iraqi, Afghani, Pakistani, Palestinian, and more!) in Philadelphia and collaborated in assisting refugees in other parts of PA and NJ. Our team consists of committed individuals all sharing the same passion to have an impact on society and to make a difference.

What We Do!

The PA Refugee Task Force (https://www.facebook.com/PaRefugeeTaskForce/) has established partnerships with the major resettlement agencies in Philadelphia where we collaborate and complement our services in a streamlined fashion. We provide mentorship and counseling, ESL, "Adopt a Family", donation collection and distribution, financial assistance, among others. None of this would be possible without our fantastic community members! 

We also have partnerships with several orgs in the area such as Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture (http://www.albustanseeds.org/) creating a sense of community for refugees (Check out photos here and here). Most recently, we collaborated with Muslim Students' Association at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn MSA) who hosted festivities in which refugees were the primary attendees. 

We are blessed to have received much rapport and  support from Islamic, Jewish, and Christian communities and centers in the greater Philadelphia area as well as NJ and DE communities. 

Student orgs in the area, such as GenUN-GP, Penn MSA, UPenn PAGE, Temple University UMR , and others have also partnered with us with the same vision to bring awareness and sustain support for refugees in the area. Our team also guided students from UPenn and Hofstra University on documenting refugee stories and compiling information for their respective university requirements as a means to bring awareness to the general public. 

Make a Difference!

We are calling everyone to help support our cause and to assist us in maintaining all that which we do for the helpless among us. Although many of these families have established themselves during this past year and are on their way to becoming independent, there are still some families in which the head of the household is not able to provide due to sickness or disability and sometimes due to the fact that lack of language prevents them from having a stable job and source of income. Our funding goes solely and completely towards assisting refugees in utilities, monthly rent, appliances, medical equipment, etc... We commit to helping as much as we possibly can but we depend on kind hearted people to make this possible. All members of the PA Refugee Task Force are VOLUNTEERS working for the sake of Allah (God). All contributions to this campaign will go 100% towards supporting the needs of refugees. We are a registered 501(c)(3) non profit. Our work is 100% transparent and we are committed to this transparency!

PA Refugee Task Force
