Our Need

In these trying times, what we need more than anything else is the mercy of Allah, and there is no better way to attract the mercy of Allah than by giving charity. 

We particularly ask the community to consider and support Masjid al-Huda at this time of need. Due to the current “shelter in place”, we’ve been forced to suspend our classes and programs from taking place on the masjid premises. However, by the grace of Allah, the activities of the masjid continue to run strong through web-conferencing services. Seven days a week, our teachers continue to offer classes to nearly 400 children on essential matters of their Din. Hifz (Qur’an memorization) and ‘Alim (seminary) course classes still take place on a full-time basis. The regular classes on Tafsir (Quranic exegesis) and Sirah (Prophetic biography) are livestreamed every week. Friday lectures and Sunday classes exclusively for Sisters are still regularly held.

Now that Ramadan is here, we have public lessons being streamed twice a day (visit www.masjidal-huda.org for details). And to provide further spiritual support to the community, we are working on introducing even more classes online in the coming days. Our teachers and staff are still hard at work to remain a pillar in lives of our community members, with the help of Allah.

Historically, Ramadan is the time when we collect the majority of our operating expenses for the entire year. Therefore, we urge our community to continue to remember Masjid al-Huda in their prayers during this blessed month and generously support the activities taking place through the blessings of the House of Allah.

Benefits of Charity

خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا

“Take from their wealth, sadaqah; to cleanse and purify them through it” (Tawbah:103)

إِنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ لَتُطْفِئُ غَضَبَ الرَّبِّ وَتَدْفَعُ مِيتَةَ السُّوءِ ‏

“Indeed, sadaqah extinguishes the anger of the Lord, and wards away a woeful death.” (Tirmidhi)

…والصَّدَقَةُ بُرْهان…

“…Sadaqah is a proof of faith…” (Muslim)

مَّثَلُ الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِي كُلِّ سُنبُلَةٍ مِّائَةُ حَبَّةٍ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يُضَاعِفُ لِمَن يَشَاءُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ

 “The example of those who spend their wealth in the path of Allah are like that of a grain that produces seven ears, each bearing a hundred grains. [Like that] Allah multiplies for whomever He wishes, And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing” (Baqarah: 261)

مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ وَمَا زَادَ اللَّهُ عَبْدًا بِعَفْوٍ إِلاَّ عِزًّا وَمَا تَوَاضَعَ أَحَدٌ لِلَّهِ إِلاَّ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ

“Sadaqah does not decrease wealth. And Allah only increases the honor of the one who forgives. And no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah, except that Allah elevates him.” (Muslim)

We pray that Allah has kept you and all your families in the best state of faith, health, and well-being in these trying times. Whether you are patiently self-quarantining at home or are one of the essential workers braving the current pandemic to keep the gears of society turning, we know everyone is being tested according to their capacities. In the midst of this test, we remind the community to continue to pray and turn to Allah, seeking His mercy and assistance to keep our family, friends, and the entire Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ healthy and safe; and to relieve the entire world from this pandemic.

One of the most effective ways to turn Allah’s displeasure away from us and to receive the Mercy of Allah, is by giving in His cause through abundant sadaqah (charity). The reality is that sadaqah is an avenue for purifying our wealth and our souls. It is a means to compensate for our shortcomings and purify us of our wrongdoing.

At a time when many people have tarnished their dignity by resorting to hoarding and engaging in selfish behavior, a believer can shine through their selflessness and generosity. Sadaqah causes the light of faith that resides in the heart of every believer to shine brighter with every cent.

Sadaqah is an ever-important aspect in the life of every believer; but at times like this, it becomes all the more important. We have been blessed to belong to a community that Allah has showered with His bounties. Our community has been further honored by Allah, by always coming together to support whatever financial campaigns have been placed in front us. So at this time when we are in need of divine aid and assistance, we urge entire community to come together once again and be generous and give for the sake of Allah in whatever avenues of good that we can.

May Allah protect and preserve all of us, and the entire Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
